What happened at UFC 319?
Chimaev challenged reigning middleweight champion Du Plessis at UFC 319 on August 16, 2025. UFC’s athlete record for Du Plessis records a five-round unanimous-decision loss and the end of his title reign; the UFC event recap identifies Chimaev as the new middleweight champion.
The stakes and billing explain why the bout drew interest, but they do not reveal either fighter’s contract terms. A title fight alone cannot establish a guaranteed purse, win bonus, pay-per-view share, or total income.

Yahoo Sports reported UFC 319 compliance payments of $32,000 for Chimaev and $42,000 for Du Plessis. On that specific reported line item, Du Plessis received $10,000 more. The figures are not a full purse or earnings total, and the Yahoo item’s publication year is not established here. They cannot show which fighter made more overall.

Other payout figures are estimates
UFCalendar’s UFC 319 purse discussion explicitly describes its figures as estimates and notes that some amounts may be undisclosed. Mint’s UFC 319 earnings coverage likewise discusses estimates and reported payouts rather than providing a complete, authoritative accounting for both fighters. These estimates should not be treated as official totals or added to the compliance figures as if they were verified components of a single calculation.
Why the overall comparison remains unresolved
A true comparison would need like-for-like information about each fighter’s guaranteed pay, any win bonus, compliance pay, discretionary bonuses, pay-per-view participation, and other income tied to the bout. The public sources cited here do not provide that complete accounting for both athletes.
