Was Jordan Love holding out in 2024?
No. Love was at camp and took part in off-field team activities; he withheld from on-field practice until the contract was completed. ESPN reporting republished by ABC News described the situation as a hold-in. A conventional holdout generally involves a player staying away from the team, so that label does not fit the reported facts as well.
The available reports establish Love’s actions, but not that he personally said he “didn’t rule out” a holdout. That wording should not be treated as a confirmed Love quote.
Why wasn’t Love practicing at Packers training camp?
Love and the Packers were still negotiating an extension. On July 22, 2024, general manager Brian Gutekunst said the team wanted Love there for the long term and that he would not practice until the agreement was done. Love had participated in the voluntary offseason program, OTAs and mandatory minicamp while talks continued.

According to the Packers’ July 27 account, Love sat out the first four non-padded practices as agents David Mulugheta and Andrew Kessler worked to finalize the deal. After signing, he rejoined practice.
Jordan Love’s 2024 contract negotiation timeline
- March 25, 2024: Gutekunst said preliminary discussions with Love’s representatives were underway. The parties could not formally agree to another extension until May 3, a year after Love’s previous extension. “Certainly, the sooner, the better,” Gutekunst said, while adding that the team wanted to do the deal the right way and that it would take time. Packers.com reported his comments.
- July 22, 2024: As training camp began, the Packers said Love was attending meetings and other team activities but would not practice before the contract was completed. Gutekunst’s training-camp comments described the shared goal: “We want Jordan here for a long time.”
- July 26–27, 2024: NFL.com reported the extension’s financial terms on July 26; the Packers announced the extension on July 27. ESPN reporting republished by ABC News also described the terms and said the deal tied Love to Green Bay through the 2028 season.
- After signing: Love returned to practice, according to the Packers’ account of the negotiation and agreement.
How much was Jordan Love’s Packers contract?
The Packers’ announcement confirms that Love signed an extension, while detailed financial figures were reported by NFL.com and ESPN reporting republished by ABC News. Those figures should be attributed to the outlets that reported them rather than treated as terms listed in the Packers’ short announcement.

What was the context for the extension?
In its July 27, 2024 announcement, Green Bay said Love had thrown for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2023, his first season with multiple starts. The Packers’ announcement confirmed the extension; the separate NFL.com and ESPN/ABC reports supplied the detailed figures above.
