What Is Jon Corzine’s Net Worth? What the Available Figures Show

A 2011 report estimated Jon Corzine’s wealth near $53 million, but no reliable current net-worth figure is established. Later figures refer to a penalty, fund assets, and campaign spending—not his present personal wealth.

A reliable current figure for Jon Corzine’s personal net worth is not established by the available reporting. The often-repeated figure near $53 million comes from a 2011 Fox Business report and is a historical calculation based on assumptions—not an audited balance sheet or a current valuation.

What is Jon Corzine’s net worth?

There is no verified current dollar amount to cite as Jon Corzine’s net worth. Fox Business’s 2011 report discussed differing estimates and presented a calculation near $53 million based on assumptions about Corzine’s past spending, investments, and possible losses. That figure should be read as an attributed media estimate from 2011, not as a confirmed measure of what he owns today. Fox Business’s 2011 report

Net worth means assets minus liabilities. Without a current, sufficiently detailed personal financial statement, a past estimate cannot establish a present value. The available figures about campaign spending, a regulatory penalty, and a hedge fund describe different things and cannot be added together or substituted for a personal balance sheet.

Why do reported figures differ from personal net worth?

The $5 million CFTC penalty

In a 2017 announcement, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission said a federal court order required Corzine to pay a $5 million civil monetary penalty in connection with MF Global’s unlawful use of nearly $1 billion of customer funds. The order also imposed specified restrictions on his CFTC registration and association with futures commission merchants. The penalty is a court-ordered amount, not an estimate of his wealth; the announcement does not establish payment status. CFTC announcement, January 5, 2017

The Opportunity Fund’s assets

Bloomberg reported that Corzine’s JDC-JSC Opportunity Fund had about $510 million in gross assets, including leverage, at the end of 2022, and that he planned to wind down the fund in 2023. Those are fund-level assets, not Corzine’s personal assets or net worth. Gross assets also do not, by themselves, show the value of an investor’s ownership after liabilities and other claims. Campaign spending

PBS FRONTLINE reports that Corzine spent $62 million of his own money on his 2000 Senate campaign and $43 million on his 2006 New Jersey gubernatorial campaign. These are historical campaign expenditures, not evidence of the assets he retained afterward. PBS FRONTLINE, “Six Billion Dollar Bet”

How much money did Jon Corzine lose after MF Global?

The available sources do not establish a definitive total for Corzine’s personal losses after MF Global. The CFTC’s account of nearly $1 billion in customer funds concerns the company’s conduct; it is not a calculation of Corzine’s personal loss. Nor does the 2011 estimate near $53 million supply a verified accounting of later gains, losses, liabilities, or assets. A precise personal-loss total would therefore be unsupported.

Why financial disclosures do not settle the question

U.S. Senate Ethics Committee guidance explains that financial disclosure reports list assets and liabilities, and that valuation dates vary by report type. A disclosure is not automatically a precise current net-worth figure. The guidance does not provide a current Corzine statement that would support calculating his present wealth.
