A PerthNow report published April 14, 2025 covered the restaurant’s launch gathering, while the venue’s own site describes a 200-seat modern Asian restaurant in the One40William precinct. The launch party was a celebration of the opening, not independently confirmed evidence of the first day of public service.
What happened at the Light Years Perth launch?
PerthNow’s April 14, 2025 coverage focused on a launch gathering at the new William Street restaurant, with food personalities and influencers among the attendees. Its report also included a caption identifying the restaurant’s owners, but the retrieved coverage does not provide a named-person quote with a stated speaker role.
The event brought the East Coast-founded brand into Perth’s city centre. In a pre-opening announcement on March 24, 2025, Light Years described the project as “a love letter to our Byron Bay roots but with an inner-city edge.” That is the restaurant’s own promotional description of its Perth concept.
What was served, and what is on the menu now?
Opening-era dishes
In its March 2025 announcement, Light Years highlighted kingfish ceviche, crispy masterstock pork belly and miso butter corn ribs, along with ginger-and-shallot lobster dumplings, lemongrass pork shumai, steak tartare and lobster noodles. These were dishes named ahead of the opening; they should not be taken as a definitive list of what was served at the launch gathering or as a promise that each remains available.

How the launch story differs from an ordinary visit
A launch gathering gives a snapshot of a restaurant’s arrival and guest scene; it is not the same as a full service review or a complete record of the menu. The opening announcement described the dishes Light Years planned to bring to Perth, while the restaurant’s later menu presents the offer available when that menu was accessed. For a visit, use the current menu and booking information rather than assuming every launch-era dish is still served.
