Josh Windass is no longer a Sheffield Wednesday player. The club ended his contract by mutual consent in July 2025, so there is no ongoing Wednesday renewal to report. The often-cited £18,000 weekly wage was a 2024 third-party estimate, not an official salary disclosure; his current Wrexham contract terms and pay are not established by the available sources.

What happened to Josh Windass at Sheffield Wednesday?

BBC Sport reported on 17 July 2025 that Windass and Michael Smith had left Sheffield Wednesday after their contracts ended “by mutual consent.” The club said: “Sheffield Wednesday thank Michael and Josh for their services and wish them well for the future.” BBC Sport’s report recorded Windass’s Wednesday contribution as 163 league appearances and 46 goals.

That July 2025 departure resolves the question of his Wednesday future: he is not still negotiating a Wednesday contract. A later Wednesday senior-contract list for 2026/27, reported by The Wednesday Word on 7 May 2026, also omits him; it does not change the fact that his departure was announced in 2025.

Is the £18,000 weekly wage figure confirmed?

No. Sheffield Wednesday News reported on 14 June 2024 that Windass was earning £18,000 per week, attributing the figure to Salary Sport. Neither that report nor the attributed estimate is an official club salary disclosure. It is historical reporting about his Wednesday period, not a verified current wage. Salary estimates can change as a player moves clubs or as third-party sites revise their figures. A number repeated online should not be treated as a confirmed salary unless the club or player has disclosed it.

What is known about his Wrexham contract and pay?

Windass is associated with Wrexham, but the sources available here do not establish his current contract length or salary through an official disclosure. Salary Sport’s indexed profile gives a Wrexham wage estimate and a June 2028 expiry date; these are third-party estimates, not confirmed contract terms. The estimate should not be conflated with the older £18,000-per-week Wednesday figure or treated as a dependable statement of his current pay. Salary Sport’s profile

For supporters looking for merchandise rather than contract details, the Wrexham AFC Official Store’s 2025/26 home-shirt page lists Windass as a personalization option. That listing confirms the option on the official store page, not stock at other retailers.
