Centuria was to develop a 2.4-hectare site as the first stage of a retail and services precinct valued at $33 million in the government’s 17 September 2025 announcement. Where the first stage fits
The site was described as about 100 metres from Alkimos Station and 150 metres from the future Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre. Plans also connect the retail stage with a public central park and main street, with a pedestrian laneway link intended to run from the station through future retail stages alongside landscaped spaces. What was expected across Alkimos Central
PerthNow reported in September 2025 that Alkimos Central is a 200-hectare precinct managed by DevelopmentWA and centred around the station. Its report described the eventual scale as prospective, not delivered: 2,450 residential dwellings, 250,000 square metres of commercial office space, up to 72,000 square metres of retail and 45,000 square metres of bulky-goods space. What is known about timing
The government’s September 2025 announcement forecast that the first stage would open in 2027. That is the original announced target; a later construction update or confirmation of the current schedule is not established by the available reporting.
Why the milestone matters
The deal moved the town-centre plan from a broad precinct vision to a named developer and a defined first retail and services stage. Planning and Lands Minister John Carey said: “Centuria’s investment is establishing Alkimos Central as a lively, mixed-use town centre close to transport, green spaces, shops and essential services.” The announcement supports that description through the proposed uses and station-side location, but it does not provide a separate economic impact estimate or substantiated local jobs figure.
