Samsung Electronics is listed on the Korea Exchange (KRX), and its global depositary receipts (GDRs) are listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). Its ticker depends on the exchange and share class: KRX common shares trade as 005930, while LSE common GDRs trade as SMSN. “Samsung” can also refer to other companies in the group, which have separate listings.
Where Samsung Electronics shares are listed
Samsung Electronics says its original common and preferred shares are listed on the Korea Exchange. The company also lists GDRs on the London Stock Exchange. GDRs provide a way to trade a depositary receipt representing shares through a different market; they are distinct from the original KRX-listed shares.
Samsung Electronics says it first listed on the Korea Stock Exchange on June 11, 1975. That is the historical listing date; the current exchange and ticker details are listed separately on the company’s stock listing information page.

The common and preferred shares are different share classes, and the KRX originals and LSE GDRs are different trading instruments. These symbols identify the securities; they do not by themselves establish which one a particular investor can buy.
How to access Samsung Electronics shares
Samsung describes direct KRX trading through a Korean securities firm, or access through a local securities firm or bank eligible to trade Korean stocks. It also describes LSE GDR access for eligible non-US residents. The route available to you depends on where you live and which markets your intermediary supports; Samsung’s investor FAQ is a starting point, not a substitute for checking current requirements with a regulated broker or bank.

Samsung’s guidance says US residents are prohibited from trading its LSE GDRs in accordance with Rule 144A. Because eligibility and local rules can vary, US investors and other readers should confirm available routes and restrictions with a regulated intermediary rather than assume that an LSE listing is accessible in their account.
“Samsung” can mean more than Samsung Electronics
Samsung is a group brand, not a single stock ticker. For example, Samsung C&T is a separate listed company: its investor FAQ gives KRX ticker 028260 for common shares and 02826K for preferred shares. Those are not Samsung Electronics tickers. Check the issuer name as well as the symbol when searching a broker’s platform.

Samsung Electronics reported 6,648,649,811 shares outstanding at the end of Q2 2026. Of these, 5,846,278,608 were common shares (87.9%) and 802,371,203 were preferred shares (12.1%).
