It combines college instruction and hands-on lab work with Amazon’s Career Choice tuition benefit for eligible hourly employees, while LWTech also makes the program available to the public. The partnership offers access to skills training—not a guaranteed job.
How the Amazon Leo–LWTech partnership is designed
Amazon Leo, formerly known as Project Kuiper, partnered with LWTech to develop training for aerospace and satellite technicians. Amazon contributed to coursework, donated 150 tools for classroom and lab use, and planned guest lecturers. The design links college-based instruction with practical assembly and manufacturing skills relevant to the regional aerospace and satellite sectors.

LWTech president Dr. Amy Morrison described the original offering as “two new, one quarter, certificates in Aerospace Assembly and Aerospace Manufacturing Proficiency” in the college’s September 6, 2024 announcement. Amazon’s launch account described two 16-credit certificates that students could complete over two semesters. LWTech’s 2024 partnership announcement and Amazon’s partnership description lay out that initial structure.
LWTech’s later update, published November 26, 2025, described a combined 15-credit Aerospace Assembly and Manufacturing Certificate, with 25 students per cohort. The college’s later description differs from Amazon’s original account of two 16-credit certificates. The published sources do not explain how or why the structure changed, so prospective students should confirm the current certificate name, credits, and schedule in LWTech’s catalog rather than treating the versions as interchangeable. LWTech’s 2025 program update describes the newer version.

What the training covers
Amazon describes a six-month training program covering aerospace assembly, electronics manufacturing, fiber optics, avionics wiring, and related skills. Its launch account lists safety, materials handling, electrical systems, emerging technologies, and industry practices among the topics. Together, these subjects point to practical preparation for work assembling and handling components and systems used in aerospace and satellite production.
Amazon graduate Dezmond Hernandez said the class taught him “how to solder, rivet, route wiring, splice wires, and use tools” used in his later workplace. Amazon reports that he went on to work as a space simulation technician. His account illustrates one graduate’s experience; it does not establish what every student will learn in the current version or what job graduates generally obtain. Amazon’s graduate profile provides the individual story.
Who can enroll and how Career Choice works
Eligible Amazon employees
LWTech says eligible Amazon hourly employees can participate in Career Choice after 90 days of employment. Qualified students request payment through Career Choice, and tuition is paid directly to LWTech. Books and fees are reimbursed when students submit receipts. Because eligibility and procedures can change, employees should verify current requirements and payment steps with both Amazon and LWTech before enrolling. LWTech’s Career Choice information describes the school’s process.
Amazon has reported more than 250,000 Career Choice participants across the program. That is an Amazon-reported program-wide figure, not a count of LWTech students or a measure of this certificate’s completion or employment results. Amazon’s Career Choice and graduate story gives the figure.

Amazon says the certificate is also available to the general public through LWTech. Public applicants do not become eligible for Career Choice simply by enrolling; they should check LWTech’s current admissions, tuition, and course-schedule information. The available class schedule can change, and the November 2025 update should not be assumed to reflect current availability.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the reported outcomes do—and do not—show
The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges’ 2026 field guide says graduates receive a guaranteed Amazon job interview. An interview is not a job offer, and the statement should not be read as guaranteed employment. The guide also gives a 100% job placement rate, but its short description does not define the cohort, denominator, measurement period, or methodology. Without those details, that figure cannot establish the likelihood that a prospective student will complete the program or secure a job.
Amazon and LWTech provide program descriptions and individual graduate stories, but the available material does not establish representative employment outcomes, completion rates, long-term earnings, or an independent evaluation of the training. LWTech’s 2025 article also attributed company plans for 3,200 satellites and nearly 150 already in orbit to Amazon vice president Brian Huseman. Those are time-sensitive company-plan and status figures, not independently verified measures of workforce demand. The state system’s 2026 field guide summarizes the initiative and its reported placement claim.
How to assess the program as a training investment
For someone weighing training options, the partnership’s clearest value is access to structured, applied coursework connected to an active regional industry. The practical subjects and classroom tools may help students build relevant skills, while Career Choice can reduce the tuition burden for eligible Amazon employees. Those advantages are different from proof of a financial return: the available sources do not establish program cost for all students, typical wages after graduation, or the probability of employment.

Quick Recap
- Confirm the current certificate title, credit total, course sequence, and schedule directly with LWTech.
- Ask LWTech for the full tuition and fee estimate and whether the classes you need are open to public applicants.
- If using Career Choice, verify eligibility, approved program status, payment timing, and reimbursement rules with Amazon and LWTech.
- Ask what the guaranteed interview entails, which positions it covers, and what the reported placement rate measures before relying on either claim in a financial decision.
