The launch extended the Galati potato business into packaged snacks, with potatoes reported as coming from farms in Myalup, Lancelin and Manjimup and sales planned through Spudshed stores. The brand’s current website lists four flavours and says the chips are exclusive to Spudshed; those are brand claims, not independent product audits.
What Spuddies is and how it started
PerthNow reported the launch on 30 April 2024, describing Spuddies as locally grown and crafted Western Australian potato chips. Galati framed the move as a next step in a long career working with potatoes: “I’ve been working with potatoes most of my life, so making a potato chip here in WA was the obvious next step in making the most of my favourite veg.”
At launch, PerthNow reported that the potatoes came from Galati farms in Myalup, Lancelin and Manjimup, and that the chips would be sold through Spudshed stores. The launch range was described as 300-gram packets in four flavours: Original, Barbecue, Chicken, and Salt and Vinegar. These are launch-era details, not confirmation of current pack size or stock. PerthNow’s 2024 launch report covers the original announcement and Galati’s comments.
Flavours and current brand claims
The official Spuddies website currently lists Chicken, Original, Barbecue, and Salt & Vinegar. It describes the product as made from 100% WA-grown potatoes, 100% Australian owned and made, free of artificial colours, flavours and MSG, gluten-free, and produced using solar energy. The site also says Spuddies is exclusive to Spudshed. These statements are the brand’s own claims; the site does not establish independent verification of them. Spuddies’ official site is the source for its current flavour list and product descriptions.

What the launch cost and facility reporting said
Manjimup Bridgetown Times reported a launch-era price of $3.99 and said Galati Group had invested $1 million in a Myalup processing facility. Both figures are contemporaneous launch reporting, not current pricing or audited expenditure. The available reporting does not establish a current price or whether the original packet size remains on sale. Manjimup Bridgetown Times’ launch coverage reported those figures.
What happened with the Myalup factory approvals
The factory later became the subject of an environmental prosecution. ABC News reported in June 2026 that Galati Group subsidiary ABV Food Processing pleaded guilty to breaching the Environmental Protection Act in 2023 and 2024 by establishing and operating the Myalup chip factory without required approvals. The company also admitted to dumping non-oily chip-making waste on site without a licence. The Bunbury Magistrates Court fined it $20,000. ABC reported that no environmental damage was done.
