It was a proposed relaunch, not proof of a successful turnaround. In March 2025, Beyond announced an agreement to sell 75% of the Zulily brand to Lyons Trading Company, the operator of Proozy, while retaining 25%. Sources reviewed for this article do not establish whether Zulily is currently live or taking orders.
What Beyond proposed for Zulily in 2024
On March 7, 2024, Beyond announced it had acquired specified Zulily intellectual-property and brand assets. The purchase was not a rescue or acquisition of the former operating company: Beyond said the deal excluded Zulily’s liabilities, liens, and debts. It disclosed a purchase price of $4.5 million, plus acquisition-related costs. GeekWire’s report on the announcement and Beyond’s announcement detail the transaction.

The assets included website and domain names, trademarks and trade names, a customer database, social accounts, website software, and associated goodwill. Beyond’s stated aim was to use those assets to reintroduce Zulily as an off-price channel within its broader ecommerce business.
The operating model: flash sales on shared infrastructure
Beyond said it could use an existing Shopify-based site and mobile app, then connect them to its own back-end systems for fulfillment, logistics, and operations. The intended advantage was to relaunch the brand without building an entirely separate operating platform or adding the same level of fixed costs. That was management’s strategic rationale, not an independently demonstrated cost or margin result.

The company expected the revived Zulily to offer furniture and home furnishings, apparel and footwear, jewelry, and watches. It forecast a functional website by the end of the second quarter of 2024; that date was an expectation in its announcement, not confirmation that the site launched as planned.
Why return to flash sales?
Zulily had built its identity around limited-time online deals, initially with a focus on mothers and children. Beyond Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis described the acquisition as a bet on off-price retail and the value of expanding the company’s customer file. In the company’s release, he said: “This acquisition doubles down on our belief in the off-price market, and its importance to building our business, improving our margin profile, and growing our customer file.”

Beyond cited a database of 18 million customers as a potential reengagement opportunity. That was a management figure about the database, not an independently verified count of active customers. The business case depended on whether former shoppers would return, whether vendors would participate, and whether the revived brand could deliver attractive deals reliably.
What made the turnaround difficult
Zulily’s earlier growth and public listing were followed by operational and competitive challenges. GeekWire’s account describes customer complaints about slow shipping and competition from Amazon and other ecommerce retailers. After ownership changes—including an acquisition by QVC’s parent in 2015 and a sale to Regent in 2023—the business deteriorated and announced liquidation later in 2023. That record made execution central to the 2024 proposal. Flash-sale pricing could help distinguish the brand, but a relaunch would also need dependable fulfillment and a customer experience that addressed the earlier shipping concerns. Shared infrastructure might reduce the need for separate fixed operating capacity; it would not, by itself, establish that delivery would be fast, service would improve, or shoppers would return.
How the plan changed in 2025
In March 2025, Beyond announced an agreement to sell a 75% stake in the Zulily brand to Lyons Trading Company, which operates Proozy, for $5 million. Beyond said it would retain 25% and described the transaction as implying an approximately $6.7 million valuation. These are the terms and valuation in Beyond’s announcement, not an independent appraisal. Beyond’s 2025 announcement gives the stated terms.

The ownership shift matters because the original revival pitch was a Beyond-led plan. The March 2025 announcement established a sale agreement, while the Minnesota Star Tribune reported that Zulily’s site was down as assets transferred to Proozy and that the companies expected a relaunch. That report describes the transition at that time; it does not establish the site’s present status or whether it is accepting orders now. The Star Tribune’s account of the transfer covered that period.
