InstaReM was presented as Nium’s consumer remittance brand, while Nium became the broader payments platform behind it. The statement that InstaReM would remain a digital remittance service comes from a company announcement dated 28 October 2019; Nium later reiterated that the consumer brand would continue. That explains the brand relationship, not whether a particular transfer route, fee, or delivery time is available today.
What did “powered by Nium” mean?
In its 28 October 2019 announcement, InstaReM said it was rebranding to become part of Nium. The announcement described Nium as a payments platform for businesses to send, spend, and receive money, integrate with enterprise technology, and build payment services. InstaReM, meanwhile, would remain a digital remittance solution powered by that platform.
In practical terms, the wording distinguished the consumer-facing remittance brand from the wider technology and payments business. It did not say that all Nium products were consumer money transfers, or that InstaReM would disappear.
Does InstaReM still exist as a consumer brand?
Nium’s later company history states: “InstaReM will live on as our consumer brand – helping individuals make international payments fast and easy – and will be powered by Nium.” Nium also describes its broader platform as serving small and medium-sized businesses, financial institutions, enterprises, payment service providers, and marketplaces.

That is the company’s stated brand position. It does not independently establish transfer speed, cost, reliability, or availability for every customer or payment corridor.
Why did InstaReM rebrand to Nium?
The 2019 announcement framed the rebrand as a way to present the company’s broader capabilities to enterprise partners. Nium co-founder and CEO Prajit Nanu said the company had rebranded InstaReM to Nium “to express our broader capabilities to the world, and to engage more directly to our existing and future enterprise partners.”
Nium’s company history describes an expansion from consumer remittances into a broader cross-border payments platform. That account is Nium’s own description of its history and strategy, rather than an independent assessment.
What do the published licensing figures mean?
The figures on Nium’s network and InstaReM’s licensing page refer to different scopes and dates. Nium’s company article says its network was powered by licenses built through work with financial regulators in over 38 countries. By contrast, the current InstaReM licensing page, accessed 8 October 2026, describes InstaReM as a brand operated by Nium and licensed in 11 countries for global money transfers.

These figures should not be combined into a single license count or treated as contradictory: one is a company statement about Nium’s network, and the other is a headline about InstaReM licensing. Licensing depends on the jurisdiction and legal entity, and can change. Check the regulator and entity relevant to your own location before sending money.

The 2019 rebrand does not establish today’s availability, pricing, or delivery time for a specific transfer. Check the terms for your sending country and destination, then compare the total amount the recipient will receive after fees and the exchange rate.

- Review the exchange rate, fees, funding method, and payout method before confirming.
- Check the estimated delivery timing, transfer limits, and any documents or identity checks required.
- Use the service terms and licensing information that apply to your jurisdiction, rather than assuming the same rules apply everywhere.
For example, Instarem’s India-specific service page describes overseas transfers, foreign currency, and forex prepaid cards under an India-specific offering; limits and documentary requirements can depend on Indian rules. Those details should not be generalized to customers elsewhere.
