G6 is the parent of the Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands. The deal was announced on September 20, 2024, and transferred the lodging company—not a stated purchase of every individual hotel property—to Oravel Stays.
Who bought Motel 6, and what did it buy?
Oravel Stays, the parent company of OYO, acquired G6 Hospitality from Blackstone Real Estate. G6 is the parent of Motel 6 and Studio 6. So the shorthand “OYO bought Motel 6” describes the brands involved, but the acquired company was G6 Hospitality.

Blackstone described G6 as an asset-light economy lodging franchisor. Its September 2024 announcement characterized the business as having a franchise network; it did not say Oravel Stays bought all the real estate beneath every Motel 6 and Studio 6 location. The acquisition should therefore be understood as a purchase of the lodging company and its brands, not as evidence that every hotel property changed ownership.
How much did the deal cost?
Blackstone stated that the transaction consideration was $525 million, paid in cash. That is the announced price for the acquisition of G6 Hospitality. It is not the same as the value of the hotel properties across the network, the brands’ room revenue, or Blackstone’s profit from its investment.

In the September 2024 announcement, Blackstone said Motel 6’s franchise network generated $1.7 billion in gross room revenues. That figure is attributed to the franchise network; it should not be read as G6 Hospitality’s revenue or as a post-acquisition performance result.

Blackstone’s completion announcement described the Motel 6 and Studio 6 network as nearly 1,500 locations across the United States and Canada. This is the company’s reported network count, not a count of properties owned by Oravel Stays.

Why did OYO pursue the acquisition?
OYO presented the purchase as an international expansion and said it intended to bring its technology, distribution, and marketing capabilities to the brands. Gautam Swaroop, CEO of OYO International, called the acquisition “a significant milestone for a startup company like us to strengthen our international presence,” in Blackstone’s September announcement. These were the buyer’s stated aims; the deal announcements do not establish what results followed.
Blackstone also included OYO expansion figures in its announcement: more than 320 hotels across 35 U.S. states, nearly 100 U.S. hotels added in 2023, and around 250 planned for 2024. Those were figures and a target reported at the time, not independent verification that the planned additions were achieved.

What did the companies say about the transaction?
Julie Arrowsmith, then president and CEO of G6 Hospitality, said OYO’s approach would allow G6 to enhance its offerings while maintaining the Motel 6 brand. Rob Harper, Blackstone’s head of real estate asset management for the Americas, described the transaction as an outcome of Blackstone’s business plan and said it had more than tripled investors’ capital and generated over $1 billion in profit during its hold period. Those comments are statements by deal participants, not independent assessments of the brands’ future or audited analysis presented here.
