What does Dakota Johnson’s house look like?
The house was built in 1947 and has a reported 3,200 square feet, three bedrooms and three bathrooms, according to Architectural Digest. Its design draws attention to the connection between indoor rooms and the outdoors: the living room has oversized front doors on one wall and floor-to-ceiling windows opposite, opening toward a lap pool. Johnson described the setting as “It’s like a tree house. On a boat.”
Natural materials and personal details keep the modernist architecture from feeling like a showroom. The rooms bring together vintage and custom furnishings, personal art and memorabilia, a record collection and a vintage Wurlitzer piano. Johnson’s office has built-in bookshelves.

The kitchen and its green cabinetry
The kitchen cabinetry was painted Benjamin Moore’s Alligator Alley. Architectural Digest’s 2020 feature also identified a Viking range, hood and dishwasher, along with a Sub-Zero refrigerator. Those are details recorded at the time of the feature, not confirmation that the same appliances remain in the house or are currently available.
Concrete, wood and the upstairs rooms
Johnson worked with interior designers Pierce & Ward on her renovation and design wish list. Cofounder Emily Ward said the team used mood boards and selected fabrics with Johnson. The second-floor cork flooring could not be saved, so wood flooring was installed in the primary suite; the bathroom uses the same concrete as the downstairs spaces.
Johnson described the value of having a home base in the feature: “I thought it would be healthy to have a base,” and “This place is my anchor.” On the bathroom’s double sinks, she joked, “Also, I think the key to a healthy relationship is double sinks.”
