What the December 20 deadline meant
IIT Mandi listed the 2024 Junior Assistant application period as 30 November to 20 December 2024 and marks that recruitment closed on its official Non-Teaching Opportunities page. The deadline is historical, not an invitation to apply now. The headline’s original wording also appeared in Scroll’s announcement about that 2024 drive: IIT Mandi Junior Assistant application window open till Dec 20.

Did IIT Mandi open another Junior Assistant recruitment?
Yes. A separate 2026 recruitment advertised 17 Level-03 Junior Assistant posts. Its terms do not change the status or conditions of the 2024 recruitment.
The 2026 notice, dated 20 March 2026, listed 2 SC, 2 ST, 4 OBC-NCL, 2 EWS and 7 UR posts; one UR post was reserved for a PwD candidate. It offered two qualification routes:

- A bachelor’s degree with at least 55% marks, knowledge of computer applications and at least one year of relevant experience; or
- A master’s degree with at least 55% marks and knowledge of computer applications.
Experience in establishment matters, legal work, purchase and import, accounts, audit or hospitality was desirable. These are details of the closed 2026 round, not current eligibility requirements. See the official listing and linked 2026 notice.
When did the 2026 application window close?
The original 2026 notice set an application deadline of 9 April 2026. An addendum dated 9 April extended the deadline to 20 April 2026 at 23:59 IST and raised the upper age limit from 30 to 35. The addendum said age was to be determined as of 20 April 2026 unless otherwise specified. These changes applied only to the 2026 recruitment. Read the official recruitment listing and addendum.

What happened in the 2026 selection process?
The official instructions specified a 100-question MCQ written examination followed by a computer-based skill/trade test. The stages were scheduled for 13 and 14 June 2026 at IIT Mandi’s North Campus; the official listing gives 13 June as the Stage-I written test date. Both scheduled dates have passed. - Look for a newly posted Junior Assistant notice and check its status, advertisement number and publication date. Do not use an application URL from a closed notice as though it were active.
