InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent group of IndiGo, announced a plan with Archer Aviation in November 2023 to develop an electric air-taxi service in India, with 2026 as its target. That was a conditional goal, not a confirmed launch date. In its latest located report, dated June 10, 2026, Moneycontrol said the plan might not materialize on that schedule and quoted InterGlobe Aviation saying it had “no major update to share.”
What did InterGlobe and Archer propose?
The November 9, 2023 memorandum of understanding (MOU) set out a proposed partnership between InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer Aviation to launch and operate an all-electric air-taxi service in India. The announcement said the parties would work with Indian partners, develop vertiport infrastructure, and train pilots and other personnel. The plan was expressly subject to regulatory approvals and clearances.
The aircraft named was Archer’s Midnight, a piloted electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers. The companies said they planned to finance the purchase of up to 200 aircraft. “Up to 200” describes the announced financing and purchase plan; it does not establish that 200 aircraft were ordered, delivered, or approved for Indian operations.
Proposed cities and uses
The companies named Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru as intended launch cities. They also described possible cargo, logistics, medical and emergency services, as well as private-company and charter operations. These were proposed uses in the MOU announcement, not services confirmed to be operating.

When might the service launch?
The 2026 date was the target in the November 2023 announcement, and the proposal depended on approvals and other preparations. In a report published June 10, 2026, Moneycontrol said industry sources believed the service might not launch within 2026 as originally envisioned. The report said Archer was focused on preparing for commercial operations in the United States in 2026 and quoted InterGlobe Aviation: “We do not have any major update to share.”
That account is not an official cancellation notice, and it does not establish a revised India launch date. The available reporting therefore leaves the timetable uncertain; it does not confirm that the India service has launched.

How long would the Connaught Place–Gurugram trip take?
For an illustrative 27-kilometre route from Connaught Place in Delhi to Gurugram, Archer’s 2023 announcement described an approximately seven-minute flight as the goal. The same announcement said the drive typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. Both figures are company-stated estimates for that example: the flight time is a target, not a demonstrated or routinely available journey, and the driving comparison is not an independent measurement.
The example does not amount to a published route, timetable, ticket offer or current booking option. The announcement does not establish what a passenger would pay or whether the proposed trip would be available to the public.

What regulatory and infrastructure steps remain relevant?
The MOU made the plan conditional on regulatory approvals and clearances. Moneycontrol’s June 2026 report described a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) airworthiness advisory circular issued in March 2026. According to that report, the framework covers piloted electric VTOL aircraft weighing up to 5,700 kilograms and includes a five-phase manufacturer approval process, cybersecurity incident reporting and a B1.E engineering licence category.
That regulatory groundwork does not establish that Archer Midnight has Indian type certification, that an operator has permission to fly the proposed service, or that vertiports are ready. The announced plan also called for local partners, infrastructure development and staff training; the available status report does not confirm those elements are complete.

What does the proposal mean for potential passengers?
For now, the announcement is a corporate plan rather than a consumer transport option with a confirmed start date, route availability or fare. The source material does not provide a ticket price, a passenger-demand estimate or a published market-size figure, so it cannot support a conclusion about affordability or likely savings versus road travel.
InterGlobe Group Managing Director Rahul Bhatia described the proposal as an opportunity to bring an “effective, futuristic and sustainable transport solution” to India. That is the company’s promotional characterization, not evidence of operating performance or passenger benefits. Whether the service becomes practical for travellers will depend on approvals, aircraft and operator readiness, infrastructure and an announced operating plan.
