The Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant recruitment notice for the 2025 batch offered 70 tentative posts, but applications closed on March 6, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. The cycle is over, so candidates cannot apply through that notice. Anyone interested in a future opening should check the Coast Guard’s official recruitment listing and follow the dates and eligibility rules in the relevant notice.

What the March 6 deadline means

The headline refers to the Indian Coast Guard’s Assistant Commandant recruitment for the 2025 batch. The 2024 notification set the application period from February 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. to March 6, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. That deadline has passed; this is not an open application window. The dates were stated in the Assistant Commandant 2025-batch notification and reflected in contemporaneous coverage.

The Coast Guard’s current recruitment listing includes later notices, but those are separate recruitments with their own dates and requirements. The later Assistant Commandant notice for the 2027 batch, for example, had a July 8–23, 2025 application period and is also closed. It listed 170 tentative vacancies, not the 70 posts in the 2025-batch headline. Check the official listing for current announcements and use the notice for the specific cycle you are considering.

How the 70 posts were divided

The Indian Coast Guard’s 2024 notification listed 70 tentative vacancies, subject to change depending on training slots:

Branch Vacancies in the 2025-batch notice Broad qualification area
General Duty (GD) 50 Recognized university degree, with specified Mathematics and Physics background
Technical 20 Engineering degree in a listed Mechanical or Electrical/Electronics discipline, with specified Mathematics and Physics background
Total 70 tentative posts Eligibility depended on meeting the branch-specific criteria

The branch counts and qualification outlines come from the 2024 notification. They describe that closed cycle only.

Eligibility rules in the closed 2025-batch notice

The notice required Indian citizenship. Its standard age range was 21–25 years as of July 1, 2024, corresponding to birth dates from July 1, 1999, through June 30, 2003. It stated a five-year age relaxation for serving Coast Guard personnel and, for General Duty, equivalent personnel in the Army, Navy, or Air Force. Degree and school-subject requirements varied by branch.

General Duty

  • A recognized university degree with at least 60% aggregate marks.
  • Mathematics and Physics through Intermediate/Class XII with at least 55% combined aggregate.
  • The notice also described a route for graduates after a diploma, where the diploma included Physics and Mathematics and met the prescribed aggregate requirement.

Technical

  • Mechanical: An engineering degree with at least 60% aggregate in a listed discipline, including Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Marine, Automotive, Mechatronics, Industrial and Production, Metallurgy, Design, Aeronautical, or Aerospace engineering.
  • Electrical/Electronics: An engineering degree with at least 60% aggregate in a listed discipline, including Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, Instrumentation, Instrumentation and Control, Electronics and Communication, Power Engineering, or Power Electronics.
  • Specified Mathematics and Physics requirements at Class XII or diploma level also applied to Technical candidates.

These standards are from the 2025-batch notification, not a guide to eligibility for a later recruitment. A future notice may set different dates, qualifications, or age limits.

Selection stages and CGCAT format

The notification described an all-India merit-based selection subject to available vacancies. Candidates had to clear five stages: CGCAT, Preliminary Selection Board (PSB), Final Selection Board (FSB), medical examination, and induction.

Stage I: CGCAT

The Coast Guard Common Admission Test (CGCAT) was a two-hour English computer-based test with 100 multiple-choice questions. The notification allocated 25 questions to each of four areas: English; Reasoning and Numerical Ability; General Science and Mathematical Aptitude; and General Knowledge. A correct response earned four marks; an incorrect response incurred a one-mark penalty.

Stages II and III: PSB and FSB

The PSB included the Computerised Cognitive Battery Test and Picture Perception & Discussion Test. The FSB, held at the Coast Guard Selection Board, included psychological tests, group tasks, and an interview.

Stages IV and V: medical examination and induction

Applicants who progressed through the selection boards were subject to a medical examination. Induction was the fifth stage in the process set out by the notice. The detailed stage sequence and test format are in the 2024 notification.

Documents and application method used for that cycle

Applications for the 2025 batch were submitted online through the Coast Guard recruitment portal identified in the notice. The registration instructions included a recent passport-size photograph, live image capture, scanned signature, left and right thumb impressions, proof of date of birth, identity proof, and applicable service, no-objection, or domicile documents. Candidates shortlisted to PSB had to provide further education and category documents.
