When did IKEA Cannington open?
The Cannington location opened on 14 February 2024, after IKEA’s October 2023 announcement forecast an early-2024 opening. The opening-day report described it as a 544-square-metre location. PerthNow reported the original forecast, and its opening-day coverage confirmed the launch. IKEA later also described the point as open since February 2024 in a June 2025 company announcement.
Is Cannington a second full-size IKEA store?
No. Cannington is a Plan & Order Point, a smaller format focused on planning and collection rather than the broad warehouse-shopping experience of a full-size store. The original report put the Cannington site at 544 square metres and the Innaloo store at 26,000 square metres. Those figures were reported by PerthNow in 2024 and 2023 respectively, so they describe the locations in that coverage rather than a current independently verified measurement.

Click-and-collect was among the services reported at opening. Check IKEA’s ordering options and collection details when placing an order, since those can change.
Buy a limited selection to take home
At opening, PerthNow reported that up to 100 products were available for immediate purchase. Examples included storage boxes, drawer inserts, kitchen-organisation items, cooking utensils and food-storage containers. This is a description of the launch assortment, not a guarantee of what is in stock now.

There was a change between the October 2023 preview and opening: the preview said same-day take-home purchases would not be available, while the opening-day report described a selected take-away range. The opening-day account is the relevant description of what shoppers could buy at launch.

For a precise address associated with Cannington, IKEA’s 2024 opening-offer terms listed the customer meeting point as Tenancy 16, 1490 Albany Highway, Beckenham WA 6107. Those were promotion terms, not a current store-directory listing.

In June 2025, IKEA Australia said it had completed the purchase of the land and buildings at 6 Sunray Drive, where IKEA Perth has operated since opening in 2008. The company said it was considering possible improvements, including rooftop solar PV, EV chargers for delivery vehicles and shifting heating and cooling to renewable power. These were possibilities under consideration in the announcement; it did not confirm that the upgrades had been installed.

The same announcement reported an average of 40,000 in-store customers and 2,800 online and remote shoppers per week for IKEA Perth, more than 2 million total visitors a year, and a 10% year-on-year increase in volume sold in FY24. These are company-reported figures in IKEA’s June 2025 announcement, not independently audited counts or current weekly estimates. IKEA also called Cannington its best-performing Plan & Order Point in Australia at that time; that description reflected the company’s FY24 context, not a present-day ranking.
