You may be able to get a refund for an iCloud+ charge, but paying for extra iCloud storage does not automatically make you eligible. Apple says customers who recently changed their iCloud+ plan should contact Apple within 14 days to request a refund; approval and legal rights depend on the circumstances and country or region.
How to request an iCloud+ refund
- Act promptly after a plan change. Apple’s iCloud+ support page, published September 15, 2026, advises contacting Apple within 14 days if you recently changed your plan. This is guidance to make a request, not a guarantee of approval. Apple’s iCloud+ downgrade guidance explains how to reach support.
- Submit a refund request. Use Apple’s refund-request process and follow the prompts for the relevant charge. Apple says refund eligibility varies by country or region.
- Check the rules where you live. Your rights can depend on your country or region, billing history, and when or how the plan was purchased or changed. The 14-day guidance should not be treated as a universal legal deadline or entitlement.
Keep the plan-change or purchase confirmation and billing details available when you contact Apple. A request is not the same as an approved refund.
Cancellation, downgrade, and refund are different
Canceling or downgrading changes your future iCloud+ service; it does not, by itself, establish that Apple will return money for a charge already paid. Apple says a downgrade or cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. If your goal is to recover a charge, make a refund request separately.
What Apple’s U.S. terms say
Apple’s U.S. iCloud terms, last revised September 14, 2026, say fees paid before termination are nonrefundable except where the agreement expressly provides otherwise. They describe a cancellation right after an initial purchase or, for an annual plan, at the start of a renewal term: notify Apple within 14 days after receiving the confirmation email. The terms say, “You do not need to provide a reason for cancellation.” This is a U.S.-specific cancellation provision, not a blanket promise of a refund for every charge or renewal. Check storage before you downgrade
Before moving to a lower plan or the free tier, compare the amount stored in iCloud with the capacity of the plan you will have. Apple’s U.S. terms state that an account includes 5 GB of storage; available paid tiers and terms may differ by country or region.

- Moving to the free plan also removes iCloud+ features.
- Review what is using storage and decide what to delete, download, or otherwise manage before the downgrade takes effect.
