There is no single authoritative, audited public figure for Howard Lutnick’s personal net worth. ProPublica lists disclosure-based reported asset values of $723 million to more than $1.3 billion, while Forbes estimated in September 2026 that Lutnick and his family together were worth about $7.3 billion. Those figures describe different things and should not be treated as competing estimates of the same personal balance sheet.

What is Howard Lutnick’s net worth?

The best-supported answer depends on the measure. ProPublica’s page based on Lutnick’s financial disclosure reports asset values from $723 million to $1.3 billion or more. Forbes’s September 2026 estimate puts Howard Lutnick and his family’s combined wealth at about $7.3 billion. Neither figure is an audited public determination of Lutnick’s personal net worth.

Figure What it measures Source and date
$723 million to more than $1.3 billion Reported asset values drawn from a financial disclosure compilation; not a precise net-worth appraisal. ProPublica, page accessed 2026
About $7.3 billion Estimated combined wealth of Lutnick and his family, including estimated business value. Forbes, September 2026

Do not average the numbers: the ProPublica figure is a broad disclosure-based asset range, while Forbes estimates family wealth and includes business interests. Their scope, valuation methods and treatment of liabilities are not equivalent.

Why the estimates are so different

Disclosure asset values are not a net-worth total

Federal financial disclosures cover specified reportable holdings, outside positions, spouse holdings, liabilities and transactions for a defined reporting period. ProPublica’s compilation labels its figure “Reported Asset Values”; it is not a single audited appraisal of all assets minus all debts at a current date. The disclosure-based range is therefore useful as a record of reported holdings, but it should not be rewritten as an exact current net worth.

Forbes estimates family wealth and private-company interests

Forbes’s September 2026 estimate concerns Lutnick and his family together, and ties a substantial part of that wealth to an indirect Tether-related interest through Cantor Fitzgerald. Valuing private-company holdings and indirect interests requires estimates rather than a public market price, so the figure is a media estimate—not an official personal balance sheet.

Cantor Fitzgerald ownership changed

Bloomberg reported in May 2025 that ownership of Cantor Fitzgerald had been transferred to trusts benefiting Lutnick’s children and outside investors, and that Lutnick cashed out at least hundreds of millions of dollars. Bloomberg said the terms were not disclosed. The transfer and the valuation of related business interests help explain why later wealth estimates may not line up with disclosure totals.

How Lutnick’s business interests relate to his wealth

Lutnick led Cantor Fitzgerald for more than three decades before entering government. Cantor-related ownership and investments are central to the public estimates, but the ownership transfer, private-company valuation and reported indirect interests make a simple calculation difficult. A business valuation attributed to a family or trust interest is not automatically the same as cash personally owned by Lutnick.

At his January 2025 confirmation hearing, Lutnick said, “I will divest, I will sell all of my interests, my business interests, all of my assets, everything,” as the Associated Press reported. AP also said his disclosure showed positions in more than 800 businesses and other private organizations. The statement records his commitment at that hearing; by itself, it does not establish the later status or value of every holding.

How to compare the published figures

Before using a net-worth number, check five things: who published it and when; whether it covers Lutnick alone or his family; whether it is a disclosure-based asset range or an estimate of total wealth; how private-company and indirect interests were valued; and whether liabilities and transaction timing were addressed. On those grounds, ProPublica’s and Forbes’s figures are not directly comparable.

What Lutnick’s philanthropy figures show

Lutnick’s 2025 Senate questionnaire gives figures for charitable activity; they are statements in that document, not independently audited or necessarily current totals.

  • Approximately $180 million given to families of Cantor employees who died in the September 11 attacks.
  • Approximately $300 million raised and distributed altogether by the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund.
  • More than $120 million raised through Global Charity Day since 2005.
