Is Shilen Patel’s net worth publicly known?
No authoritative current source establishes Shilen Patel’s individual net worth. A February 2024 report by Spanish newspaper AS described the Patel family’s combined fortune as around US$2 billion. It is a secondary estimate, not an audited disclosure, and it does not say how much of that wealth belongs to Shilen Patel personally.
That distinction matters: a family estimate cannot be presented as one family member’s net worth. Nor do club ownership and funding figures reveal an owner’s personal balance sheet.
How does that compare with estimates for other EFL owners?
A 2026 survey of Championship club owners cited a £1.25 billion Sunday Times Rich List estimate for Bristol City owner Stephen Lansdown and an approximately £689 million Forbes estimate for Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan. The survey is a secondary source, and the estimates come from different publications, dates, currencies and methods. They offer context, not a like-for-like league table.

Because Patel’s figure is a family estimate while Lansdown’s and Tan’s are estimates for individuals, and because the sources may value wealth differently, the evidence does not support a precise ranking of Patel against the EFL’s richest owners.
What West Brom’s ownership and funding figures show
Bilkul Football WBA, LLC, a company ultimately owned by Shilen Patel and his father, Dr Kiran C. Patel, completed the acquisition of an 87.8% shareholding in West Bromwich Albion Group Limited on 28 February 2024 after EFL approval, according to the club’s takeover announcement. The club’s current ownership disclosure says Bilkul holds 93.9% of the group’s issued share capital and that Shilen Patel and Dr Kiran C. Patel each hold an indirect significant interest in Bilkul. The figures refer to different points in time: 87.8% at completion of the takeover and 93.9% in the later disclosure.
West Brom’s announcement of its accounts for the year ended 30 June 2024 reported £28.2 million in turnover and a £33.9 million loss. It also said Bilkul had provided £25.3 million in additional capital injections by that point. The 2024/25 group accounts reported £32.865 million in interest-free shareholder loans from Bilkul since the acquisition, including £22.865 million advanced during that financial year.
These amounts describe club finances and funding supplied by Bilkul. They are not Shilen Patel’s personal net worth: the disclosures do not establish how the funding was financed or what share, if any, came from Patel’s own assets.

What EFL approval says—and does not say—about wealth
The EFL’s owners’ test guidance says a prospective owner must demonstrate access to enough cash to acquire the proposed shareholding and fund club operations in line with the disclosed business plan. That is a requirement to show funding capacity for a proposed ownership and operating plan; approval does not publish or certify a personal net-worth figure.
The rules governing club spending also depend on season. For 2026/27, the EFL says Championship Squad Cost Rules replace Profitability and Sustainability rules. The allowance is set at 85% of income, with a flexible equity top-up allowance of £33 million across three years, capped at £15 million in any one season, according to the EFL’s announcement. Those limits concern club cost control, not an owner’s personal fortune, and should not be applied to earlier seasons.
