The most commonly cited comparison puts Blackburn Rovers’ owners, the Rao family behind Venky’s, at an estimated $2 billion combined. That is a rough, dated estimate—not a verified 2026 net-worth figure. A compiled list gives higher estimates for several other EFL owners, including $2.6 billion for Bristol City’s Stephen Lansdown, $3.5 billion for Leicester City’s Srivaddhanaprabha family and $32.7 billion for QPR co-owner Lakshmi Mittal. These figures are not directly comparable audited valuations, and none tells you how much money is available to spend on a club.
How rich are Blackburn Rovers’ owners?
The Rao family’s wealth is commonly estimated at $2 billion combined in a compiled list of English football club owners. The estimate traces to a 2012 newspaper report, so it should be treated as an old, approximate comparison—not as a current, independently verified valuation of the family’s assets. The compiled owner list does not establish how much of that wealth is liquid, held by particular family members, or available to Blackburn Rovers.
The ownership structure is clearer than the wealth estimate. Companies House identifies Venkys London Limited as Blackburn Rovers’ active person with significant control, with at least 75% of the club company’s shares and voting rights and the power to appoint or remove directors. The comparison below reproduces estimates in a compiled English football owners list. It combines different kinds of owners and sources from different years, so it is useful for broad scale—not for ranking current, spendable resources precisely.

On those published figures, the Venky/Rao estimate is below the Lansdown and Srivaddhanaprabha estimates and far below Mittal’s. But the comparison mixes a family estimate with individual estimates and relies on sources retrieved or published in different years. It does not support precise percentage comparisons or a reliable conclusion about which owner can fund the biggest playing budget.
Why owner wealth is not the same as club spending power
Net worth, company revenue, club-company share capital, club valuation and a football budget are different measures. A rich owner may hold wealth in assets that are not liquid or may choose not to commit it to a club. Conversely, a company’s reported revenue is not the personal wealth of its owners.

Does a 2026 football rich list give a newer Venky’s figure?
No. FourFourTwo’s 2026 football rich list says it uses publicly available figures and Forbes valuations where possible, warns that omissions are possible and sets its top-50 threshold at £2.6 billion. Venky’s does not appear in the list. A large reported fortune cannot by itself predict sporting results or investment. Blackburn’s history illustrates why: Venky’s acquired the club in 2010; it left the Premier League in 2012, dropped to League One in 2017 and returned to the Championship in 2018, according to The Financial Express. Those milestones do not explain the family’s current wealth or establish what future funding will be.

In April 2025, BBC Sport reported that Blackburn chief executive Steve Waggott and chief operating officer Suhail Pasha said Venky’s did not want to sell and that they had not received a concrete offer.
