To open a Meezan Bank account, first choose the route that fits your residency and account needs: resident Pakistanis can apply through the Meezan Digital Account Opening App or at a branch; eligible residents with limited income documentation can consider Digital Asaan; and eligible non-residents can apply for a Roshan Digital Account (RDA). Each route has different documents, checks and funding rules.
Choose the right account-opening route
| Route | Who it is for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Standard digital account | Eligible resident individuals applying through the app | Identity, occupation and income/funds information, plus mobile and biometric verification. Standard Rupee Current, Rupee Savings and Bachat applications require supporting income and proof-of-funds evidence. |
| Digital Asaan | Resident Pakistanis with limited proof of source of income; new Meezan customers | PKR current or savings account with no physical documentary requirements, but identity and biometric checks still apply. Account limits and one-account-per-customer rules apply. |
| Branch application | Applicants who prefer in-person assistance or need a branch to resolve an issue such as a SIM not registered in their name | Application forms, identity and source-of-income documents, biometric verification and compliance checks. |
| Roshan Digital Account | Eligible non-resident Pakistanis and other qualifying non-residents | Separate digital application and document requirements; funding is through foreign remittances, and some applicants may need in-country branch biometrics. |
Meezan’s digital account overview, Digital Asaan information, branch account-opening process and Roshan Digital Account page describe these routes. Check the relevant page and account-specific Key Fact Sheet before applying, since terms can change.

Open a resident account in the app
Meezan says resident Pakistanis can use its Digital Account Opening App for personal PKR accounts. The bank lists a smartphone, an original identity document such as a CNIC, a SIM registered in the applicant’s name, and source-of-income information for a standard digital account. Additional beneficial-owner identity details are required for unemployed applicants and housewives, according to the bank’s overview.
The app FAQ lists Digital Asaan, Digital Remittance, Digital Freelancer, standard digital Rupee Current, Rupee Savings and Bachat, and Roshan Digital Account among supported account types. Eligibility and documents vary by product. For most resident digital applications, the SIM should be registered in the applicant’s own name; the FAQ identifies Digital Freelancer as an exception. If your number is not in your name, a branch may be able to assist.

What standard digital applicants need
For a standard digital Rupee Current, Rupee Savings or Bachat account, Meezan’s FAQ calls for a scanned copy or photo of a valid original CNIC/SNIC, acceptable evidence of income, and proof of funds. The exact documents depend on your work and circumstances; examples are listed below.
Application steps
- Download the Meezan Digital app and enable location access if prompted.
- Verify your mobile number using the one-time password (OTP).
- Enter your identity details and provide occupation information.
- Complete the biometric verification and capture a live selfie.
- Review the application details and submit the application.
The app flow includes identity and biometric verification; a digital application is not simply a web form. Meezan describes this flow on its digital account page and in the app FAQ.
Consider Digital Asaan if you have limited income documents
Meezan describes Digital Asaan as a simplified option for resident Pakistanis with limited proof of source of income. It is a PKR-only current or savings account, available only to new customers, with one Digital Asaan Account per customer. The bank says there are no physical documentary requirements, but applicants still enter identity details and complete biometric verification through the app.
Meezan’s page, last updated August 4, 2026, lists a maximum credit balance of PKR 3,000,000, a monthly debit limit of PKR 1,000,000 and no initial deposit requirement. These limits are specific to Digital Asaan, not a general promise for other Meezan accounts. Review current terms on the Digital Asaan page before applying.

Apply at a branch
At a branch, Meezan’s published process is to discuss deposit products, choose an account, and submit the completed Account Opening Form, specimen signature card, applicable declarations and terms, and required identity and source-of-income documents. Bank staff conduct biometric verification and compliance checks. The bank may request more information, particularly for high-risk cases.
Meezan’s process document says individual accounts are ordinarily activated within one working day (24 hours) after all required documentation and formalities are complete. It lists two working days (48 hours) for entity accounts. These are stated process times, not guarantees; enhanced due diligence, approvals or discrepancies can take longer. The document also mentions an initial deposit for ATM, SMS and account opening that varies by account type. Confirm any current amount and charges using the applicable Key Fact Sheet or with the branch.

Meezan’s checklist, effective April 2025, identifies acceptable identity documents by applicant category. It also says an authorized bank officer may need to see original documents and that the bank can request additional evidence. The checklist is guidance, not a guarantee that a particular document will satisfy every account’s review.
Identity documents
- Pakistani citizens: valid CNIC, SNIC, NICOP or SNICOP.
- Foreign citizens: valid passport.
- Persons of Pakistani origin: POC.
- Registered aliens: ARC.
- Afghan refugees: POR card.
- Pakistani minors: Form-B or Juvenile Card.
Income, work and funds evidence
- Salaried applicants may provide a current salary slip, salary certificate, account statement or tax document for income; an employee card, employer certificate, employment contract or work permit may establish profession or employment.
- Self-employed, freelance and other non-salaried applicants may use payment receipts, account statements, tax documents, business registration or partnership records, or other evidence related to their work and funds.
- Applicants supported by family or guardians may need evidence identifying the income or funds provider, such as relevant particulars or supporting records.
Meezan notes that one document can sometimes establish both source of income and profession or work. Which evidence is suitable depends on the account, applicant category and bank review; the bank may ask for further documents. See the bank’s Account Opening Documents Checklist.

Open a Roshan Digital Account from overseas
RDA is a separate route for eligible non-resident Pakistani nationals holding CNIC, SNIC or NICOP, POC holders, and non-resident foreign individuals. Meezan says eligible applicants can apply digitally from outside Pakistan without visiting a branch.
Depending on the applicant, the uploaded documents can include identity papers, passport, a live photograph, signed specimen signature card, proof of non-resident Pakistani status where relevant, proof of profession and source-of-income records. Documents should be in Urdu, English or Arabic; otherwise, the bank says they should come with a certified translation.
Applicants who start an RDA request from within Pakistan must complete biometric verification at a local branch. The same applies if a joint applicant is in Pakistan. Meezan says RDA funds come through foreign remittances and that an existing Meezan Asaan Account must be closed before applying, because the two cannot be maintained together. Confirm current eligibility and requirements on the RDA page.
Check current terms before submitting
Meezan’s July 2026 notice says revised terms for specified account groups took effect on August 27, 2026. Because eligibility, documentation, charges and limits can be account-specific, read the current terms and the applicable Key Fact Sheet for your chosen account before submitting. The bank may request additional information or documents during its review. See the current terms and conditions.
