To move cryptocurrency safely between centralized exchanges, start on the receiving exchange: confirm the exact asset and a deposit network supported by both platforms, copy the deposit address and any required memo or tag, then enter those details at the sending exchange. Check every field and the withdrawal fee before authorizing. For a new or uncertain destination, send a small test amount first and wait until it is credited.
Before you start: confirm the route on both exchanges
This guide covers an on-chain cryptocurrency transfer between two centralized exchange accounts. It does not cover fiat withdrawals to a bank or internal transfers between users of the same exchange.
Open the receiving exchange’s deposit instructions for the exact cryptocurrency. Choose a network shown there, then check that the sending exchange offers that same network for that asset. The network must match at both ends; a low fee is not a reason to use an incompatible route. Binance warns that an incompatible network can result in loss and advises users to match the selected network to the platform they are withdrawing from: Binance’s deposit and withdrawal guidance.
Do not assume that similar network names or a familiar-looking address prove compatibility. If the receiving exchange does not support the selected asset-and-network combination, stop and choose a route both exchanges explicitly support.

Transfer checklist
- Open the receiving exchange’s deposit page. Sign in through its official app or website and select the exact cryptocurrency you intend to receive.
- Select a supported deposit network. Verify that the sending exchange offers the same network for the same asset. If you cannot confirm an exact match, do not proceed.
- Copy the deposit address and check for an extra identifier. Follow the receiving exchange’s instructions for any memo, destination tag, or payment ID. Copy that value separately; do not guess or substitute one. Some exchanges use a shared address and rely on the extra identifier to route funds to the right account. Coinbase explains that the receiving platform determines whether a tag or memo is required, and that an omitted or incorrect value can delay crediting or result in loss: Coinbase’s destination tag and memo FAQ.
- Enter the transfer at the sending exchange. Choose the same cryptocurrency and matching network, paste the receiving address, and enter the required memo or tag in the designated field. Review the withdrawal preview against the receiving exchange’s deposit instructions.
- Consider a small test transfer. For a new destination or a costly-to-correct mistake, send a small amount that meets the current withdrawal and deposit minimums and can cover applicable fees. Wait for it to appear and be credited before sending the remainder. Coinbase recommends considering a small test send to check the address and any required tag or memo. A test reduces risk; it cannot guarantee that every later detail is correct.
- Recheck the main withdrawal before authorizing. Confirm the asset, network, full destination address, memo or tag, amount, displayed fee, and estimated amount to be received. Complete the sending exchange’s current security verification steps.
- Track the transfer until it is credited. Save the withdrawal reference or transaction ID, then check the sending exchange’s withdrawal history and the receiving exchange’s deposit history for status.
What to verify in the withdrawal preview
- Asset and network: Both must match the receiving exchange’s deposit instructions for the selected cryptocurrency.
- Address: Compare the pasted destination with the address displayed by the receiving exchange before confirming.
- Memo, tag, or payment ID: Include it only when the receiving exchange requires one, and copy the exact value into the intended field.
- Amount and fee: Check the amount being sent, the displayed withdrawal fee, and the estimated net receipt. Fees and minimums can vary by exchange, asset, and network; use the live figures shown in your accounts.
- Security controls: Follow the sending exchange’s verification prompts. If available, consider confirming a new withdrawal address or using an address whitelist. These controls differ by platform: Binance’s withdrawal guidance describes withdrawal verification and an address-whitelist feature; Kraken’s instructions for adding and confirming a withdrawal address explain its address-confirmation process.
Why a memo or tag can matter
A deposit address identifies where a transaction is sent, but some receiving exchanges also require a memo, destination tag, or payment ID to associate the deposit with your account. Requirements depend on the asset and the receiving platform. Use the exact instruction shown on that platform’s deposit screen. If it displays no such requirement, do not invent a value; if it does, do not leave the field blank.
What to do if the transfer is delayed
A submitted withdrawal may not appear immediately. Blockchain confirmation time varies with the network and its traffic, and the receiving exchange may require confirmations before crediting a deposit. There is no universal arrival-time estimate that applies to every asset, network, and exchange. Check the sending exchange’s withdrawal status and the receiving exchange’s deposit history using the transaction reference or ID. Binance’s official guidance also notes that arrival time depends on blockchain confirmations and network conditions: Binance deposit and withdrawal guidance.

If the transaction is marked complete by the sender but is not credited by the receiver, use the receiving exchange’s official support instructions and provide the transaction ID and requested details. Do not send a second transfer simply because the first is taking longer than expected.
