To open a standard Amazon shopping account, go to Amazon’s official sign-in page and choose Create your Amazon account under New to Amazon? Follow the instructions shown there. Amazon’s page says that continuing is subject to its Conditions of Use and Privacy Notice.
Steps to create a customer account

Open Amazon’s official sign-in page. Check that you are on Amazon’s website rather than following an unexpected link in a message.

If Amazon asks you to verify your account with a code, use the code delivered through the channel Amazon offers. Keep it private; do not share it with anyone who contacts you.
Signing in and securing your account
Amazon’s sign-in help says the available login method depends on how the account was set up. It describes password, one-time-code (OTP), and passkey sign-in. These are sign-in possibilities, not steps that are all required to create an account. If a code does not arrive or sign-in fails, use Amazon’s official sign-in help rather than a third-party account-recovery service.

Amazon describes two-step verification as an additional layer at login. It can deliver a code by text message or through an authenticator app. The cited guidance presents it as an account-security feature, not a requirement for opening an account. Amazon does not provide comparative performance data in that guidance to rank the two code methods.

Never give a caller your password or OTP. Amazon says: “We will never ask for your password, OTP, gift card details, bank card details or any other confidential information over the phone.” If you distrust a call, end it and contact customer service through Amazon’s app or website.

Do not confuse a customer shopping account with seller registration. Amazon Seller Central has a separate, business-oriented registration workflow; its requirements are not the steps for creating a standard shopping account.
