If you bought an eligible game directly from EA on the EA app or EA.com, submit a request through EA’s Refund Tool. Most eligible games qualify within 24 hours of first launch, within 14 days of purchase if you have not launched them, or any time before a preorder’s release. If you bought through Steam, Epic, a console store, Apple, Google, or a retailer, request the refund from that seller instead.
First, check where you bought the game
EA’s current policy is called the EA refund policy; it was formerly known as the Great Game Guarantee. The EA Refund Tool is for eligible purchases made on the EA app or EA.com. Check your receipt or account order history to identify the seller that took payment.

For a purchase through Steam, Epic, a console store, Apple, Google, or a physical retailer, EA says to contact that platform or retailer and follow its refund process. EA cannot process refunds for those transactions. Local consumer law may provide rights beyond a seller’s policy, depending on where you live and the facts of your purchase.
Check the refund deadline
EA’s standard windows for eligible full game downloads for PC or Mac, and participating third-party games marked as eligible when purchased, depend on when you bought and first launched the game:

- Card can be used for merchandise and services at any Academy location or academy.com. Card not valid until purchased and activated

The technical-issue route is a separate, limited exception, not a general extension for every problem or every purchase. EA’s Refund Tool is the practical way to check whether a particular game and transaction qualify.
Submit a request through EA
- Open EA’s Refund Tool and sign in to the EA Account used for the purchase.
- Select the game and choose a reason for the request.
- Check the refund payment method shown, then confirm and submit the request.
You can also sign in and go to Payments & Wallet > Order History. Expand the game’s transaction and choose Request a refund if that option is available.

Know what EA’s policy excludes
Not every purchase connected to an EA game is covered by the same refund policy. Before submitting, check the product type and payment method:
- Separately purchased DLC and in-game currency: EA’s policy does not refund these purchases.
- Some editions: Editions containing virtual currency and/or content packs may be excluded.
- Bundles: A bundle must be returned as a whole, including all included games and content.
- Repeat purchases: EA limits refunds for the same game to two; a third purchase cannot receive a third refund.
- Payment method: Some methods are non-refundable. EA gives examples that include certain carrier or cash methods, prepaid or voucher cards, and third-party payment providers. The examples are not exhaustive, and availability can vary by region and transaction.
- EA Play for PC: Memberships are generally not refundable under EA’s policy, though statutory rights may apply in some countries. A subscription is different from a game purchase.
Track the request and understand its status
Check Payments & Wallet > Order History or return to the Refund Tool to follow a submitted request. EA describes the statuses as follows:

- Completed: The payment provider accepted the refund request.
- Pending: EA is waiting for an update from the payment provider.
- Failed: The provider may have denied the request, or the payment method may no longer be available to receive the funds.
Do not confuse an order’s Processing status with a refund status or a promise about when money will arrive. EA says most orders are processed within 24 hours and some may take up to 72 hours; that guidance concerns order and payment processing, while refund requests have their own statuses.
If the tool does not resolve the issue
If you believe a refund is due but have not received it, contact EA support before filing a chargeback. EA warns that an out-of-policy chargeback may result in account restriction or removal of the charged-back content. If the game was sold by another platform or retailer, contact that seller instead.

How local consumer rights fit in
EA’s refund policy sits alongside statutory consumer rights, which vary by jurisdiction and circumstances. EA’s regional information describes examples of rules in places including Australia, the European Union, and South Korea; those examples do not establish a universal refund right or deadline. If you think local law gives you a remedy, check the rules that apply where you live and raise the issue with the seller that took payment. See EA’s refund policy and regional warranty information.
