You can earn tokens or digital assets in some blockchain games by winning matches, completing activities, trading assets, staking eligible tokens, entering contests, or selling creations. None of these routes guarantees cash or profit: rewards depend on each game’s rules, costs, market demand, and whether you can find a buyer. Here is how the main options work and what to check before you spend time or money.
What “earning” means in a blockchain game
A game may award a token, NFT, card pack, or other digital asset. That is a potential reward, not automatically money in your pocket. To turn an asset into cash, it generally needs to be transferable, supported by a marketplace, and bought by someone at a price that exceeds your costs. Token and NFT prices can change, and transaction or sale fees can reduce what you receive.
There is no well-supported general estimate for dollars per hour or monthly income from blockchain games. Reward eligibility, payout amounts, and markets vary by game and can change. Check the live game rules and market before treating any advertised reward as income.
Ways players may earn rewards
Win matches or rank in competition
Gods Unchained documents several play-based routes. Its support guidance describes $GODS rewards for winning eligible Daily Play & Earn matches, expansion packs tied to Weekend Ranked performance, forging earned core cards into tradable Meteorite NFT cards, and occasional tournaments. Trade cards and other game assets
Some games let players trade eligible assets with other players. Gods Unchained identifies NFT cards that can be listed on marketplaces such as TokenTrove. Axie’s economy documentation describes tokenized resources and items traded on peer-to-peer markets. Stake eligible tokens
Staking is different from earning through gameplay: it involves holding and committing eligible tokens under a program’s rules. Axie’s AXS documentation describes staking AXS for newly issued AXS rewards and says holders may claim rewards associated with staking, playing, and governance voting. Gods Unchained also describes staking rewards from a token rewards pool and links participation to governance initiatives. Check asset terms in other ecosystems
Illuvium’s terms describe multiple game services and allow players to earn and trade certain game assets. They also state that secondary sale fees apply to certain assets. The terms do not establish current reward amounts, which assets are presently available, or the net return a player might receive. The cited pages do not comprehensively establish current costs, availability, or requirements for every activity. Verify them in each game’s live rules before participating; do not assume that a free way to start also makes every earning feature free.

Why rewards do not guarantee profit
A reward’s displayed value is not the same as the amount you can realize. Your result depends on whether you can sell or exchange it, the price buyers will pay, token and asset price changes, transaction and secondary-sale fees, and any costs or time you put in.
A February 2026 empirical paper analyzed blockchain transaction data and website data from 12 NFT games. In that sample, NFT traders in 9 of the 12 games had negative average profit. The paper also found that a few top wallets controlled a disproportionate share of NFTs, most wallets held one or two NFTs and did not trade actively, and promotions temporarily increased trading volume or prices in some games.
