To buy Chainlink’s LINK token, use a crypto exchange that supports LINK purchases where you live. Create and verify an account if required, choose an available way to fund it, select LINK, enter an amount, and check the quoted price and fees before confirming. Then decide whether to leave LINK with the exchange or withdraw it to a compatible wallet.
What are you buying when you buy LINK?
Chainlink is a decentralized network and set of services; LINK is its associated token. Buying LINK does not mean you are purchasing a Chainlink service. Chainlink’s documentation says LINK is used to pay for Chainlink services and is also used in Chainlink Staking. Chainlink’s LINK token documentation
Chainlink documents LINK as an ERC-677 token, and its smart-contract overview says ERC-677 inherits ERC-20 functionality. That can help when checking wallet compatibility, but it does not mean every exchange supports the same network for every LINK deposit or withdrawal. LINK token contracts and smart-contract overview
Choose a route that works in your jurisdiction
Use an exchange that currently supports buying LINK for your country or region and account type. Availability, eligible currencies, verification requirements and payment options vary. Kraken, for example, describes creating and verifying an account, connecting a funding method, selecting LINK and confirming an order after reviewing its preview; it also notes geographic restrictions. Depending on location, account eligibility, currency and payment provider, an exchange may offer options such as card payment, bank transfer or other methods. Binance lists examples of these routes but qualifies their availability by those factors. Treat the methods shown in your own account as the applicable options, not as a universal list. Binance’s guide to buying LINK
Buy LINK and review the order
- Open an eligible account. Register with an exchange that offers LINK purchases in your jurisdiction and complete any identity or account verification it requires.
- Choose a funding method. Check the payment method, currency and any processing conditions shown for your account.
- Select LINK and enter an amount. Review whether the interface is showing the cash amount you will spend or the quantity of LINK you intend to buy.
- Inspect the order preview. Check the LINK amount you will receive, the quoted price and every displayed exchange or payment fee. A quote can change, and a bank, card issuer or outside payment provider may charge separately.
- Confirm only if the order details suit you. Do not rely on a price or fee from an earlier screen if the final preview differs.
Exchange purchase instructions describe this general sequence, but the exact labels and available options can change. Consult the live order screen before submitting a purchase. Kraken and Binance

Choose where to keep your LINK
After purchase, you can leave LINK in the exchange account or withdraw it to a wallet you control. Exchange custody is convenient, but you rely on the exchange to provide account access and handle custody. With self-custody, you are responsible for protecting the wallet’s recovery information and approving transactions carefully. Neither option guarantees safety.
If you leave LINK on the exchange
Secure the account with the protections the exchange offers, such as a strong, unique password and multifactor authentication. Make sure you understand the exchange’s account recovery process. The exchange controls the custody arrangements for assets held there.

If you withdraw to a self-custody wallet
Check the exchange’s current withdrawal networks and fees, then confirm that the destination wallet supports LINK on the exact network selected. Before sending, compare the network shown by the exchange with the network supported by the wallet, and carefully verify the destination address. A network mismatch or incorrect address can result in a failed or unrecoverable transfer. Binance’s guide emphasizes that self-custody makes protecting wallet access details and checking the address and network the user’s responsibility. Binance’s guide
An Ethereum-compatible hardware wallet is one possible physical option for someone choosing self-custody, not a requirement for buying LINK. Confirm that the specific wallet supports the token and the exact network you plan to use on the manufacturer’s current compatibility list; ERC-677/ERC-20 functionality alone does not verify support for a particular device or transfer route. What to compare before choosing an exchange
- Whether LINK is available to buy and withdraw in your jurisdiction.
- Which funding methods and currencies are enabled for your account.
- The total quoted cost, including exchange fees, any disclosed spread and possible payment-provider charges.
- Whether you plan to use exchange custody or self-custody.
- For a withdrawal, the supported network, fee and compatibility of your destination wallet.
Listings, fees, payment eligibility and withdrawal networks can change. Check the provider’s current purchase and withdrawal screens before acting. A listing for a differently identified token should not be assumed to be the same as the LINK described here: Coinbase’s cited page, for example, concerns a Chainlink-named asset identified on Base and describes access through its decentralized trading experience, not evidence of centralized-exchange availability for this LINK.
