To accept money on Cash App, give the sender your $cashtag, phone number, or email tied to your account. You can also request money in the app or share a payment link. Most incoming payments are added to your Cash App Balance automatically; if one is marked Pending, you may need to accept it in Activity.
How to receive money on Cash App
A sender can look up your account with your $cashtag, phone number, or email. Share the identifier associated with your Cash App account and ask the sender to check it carefully before paying. Cash App warns that a typo can send money to the wrong account. A $cashtag identifies your account; it is not a secret credential.
If you do not yet have a Cash App account, create one and verify the phone number or email address the sender used. Otherwise, the payment may not reach the account you intend. Cash App’s receiving guide explains these options.
Peer-to-peer payments received through Cash App go to your Cash App Balance. You do not need to link a bank account just to receive money; linking one is relevant if you later want to move funds out of Cash App. See the Cash App US Terms for the account terms.

How to request a payment
If you are the one collecting money, you can send a request rather than wait for the other person to find your account. Cash App’s guide describes requesting in the app or sharing a payment link.
- Open the payment screen in Cash App and enter the amount.
- Select Request, add a note if useful, then choose an in-app request or a shareable link.
- Send the request to the intended payer. A request is not a payment: the selected sender must approve it before money is sent, as described in the US Terms.
Cash App announced payment request links on February 10, 2026, saying they can be shared by text, email, social media, and messaging apps. In that announcement, Cash App reported that 53% of Gen Z respondents in a Cash App-commissioned 2024 survey said they send a reminder text before requesting payment, and 49% said they send a follow-up afterward; the announcement does not state the survey sample size. How to accept a pending Cash App payment
Some incoming payments appear as Pending and require an explicit acceptance. Check the Activity tab for the payment. If the app shows an acceptance option, open the payment and tap Accept. Cash App’s instructions are in its guide to receiving money and accepting pending payments.
App labels and screens can change. Use the current options shown in your app rather than relying on an old screen layout.

If a payment is missing or still pending
Check these items before assuming the payment failed:
- Look in Activity: If the payment is listed as Pending, open it and accept it if the app offers that choice.
- Confirm the recipient details: Ask the sender to verify the $cashtag, phone number, or email they used.
- Check for verification prompts: Cash App says identity verification may resolve receiving-limit issues. Follow any prompt in the app.
- Update the app and check your connection: Then look in Activity again.
- Ask the sender to check their funding source: A problem on the sender’s side may prevent the payment from completing.
These troubleshooting steps are listed in Cash App’s receiving guide.

Fees, verification, and limits
Cash App describes receiving money as free for a personal account. It also says unverified accounts have receiving limits, and its terms reserve the ability to impose or adjust transaction limits. Verification requirements and limits can vary by account and may change, so check the current details and any prompts in your app rather than relying on a limit quoted elsewhere. Cash App’s guide and US Terms provide the relevant account information.
Receiving a peer-to-peer payment does not require buying a Cash App Card or Cash App Tag. Those products are not prerequisites for accepting money into your Cash App Balance.
