There is no verified current purchase price for Derby County in the available reporting. The figures attached to potential takeovers are not interchangeable: Mike Ashley was reported to be preparing a £50 million offer in January 2022, while late-2025 coverage described a £60 million valuation. Neither is evidence of an agreed sale. David Clowes’s reported £55 million outlay in 2022 is a historical cost covering the club and separate stadium and loan arrangements.
Is there a confirmed price to buy Derby County?
No current asking price or accepted offer is established in the cited reporting. In September 2026, the BBC reported that a proposed controlling-stake purchase through Lion Sport had been abandoned after the season began; its report disclosed no price. That is the latest cited takeover-process update, not evidence that Derby was sold.
To compare the amounts reported over time, distinguish what each one represents: a proposed offer, an attributed valuation, or the cost of a completed transaction. Also check whether creditors, Pride Park and loan settlement are included.
| Figure | What it describes | Status and scope |
|---|---|---|
| £50m | Mike Ashley’s reported figure in January 2022 | Sky Sports reported he was preparing a formal offer; it was not a completed purchase price. |
| £55m | David Clowes’s reported 2022 total expenditure | BBC Sport described a completed transaction and related obligations, including the club purchase and a separate stadium and MSD-loan agreement. |
| £60m | Reported valuation in late-2025 coverage | Secondary coverage linked Ashley and John Textor to interest; the figure was not established as an official asking price or accepted bid. |
What did David Clowes pay in 2022?
BBC Sport reported in 2024 that Clowes paid £33 million to purchase Derby County while the club was in administration. That figure included £19.7 million paid to creditors. In a separate agreement, £22 million covered Pride Park and settlement of an outstanding MSD loan. BBC described the combined expenditure as £55 million.

The distinction matters: £33 million was the reported club-purchase amount, while £55 million captured the broader outlay including the separate stadium and loan arrangement. Neither amount is a current valuation. The 2025 accounts say Clowes Developments funded the club purchase and acquired the stadium separately in 2022.
What do the Ashley and Textor reports actually say?
Mike Ashley: reported £50m offer in 2022
Sky Sports reported on 8 January 2022 that Ashley was preparing a formal £50 million offer. The report also said he might seek to buy Pride Park separately from former owner Mel Morris if successful. This was a reported proposed offer, not a confirmed completed bid or the price of a sale.

Late-2025 reports: £60m valuation and interest
Late-2025 secondary coverage, citing journalist Alan Nixon’s reporting, said Ashley was monitoring Derby and described a £60 million valuation. It also linked John Textor with interest. The reporting does not establish a club-issued asking price, an accepted offer, or how much Textor would pay. Neither man is shown by these reports to have completed a takeover.
What do Derby’s latest cited accounts say about its finances?
Derby County (The Rams) Limited’s accounts for the year ended 30 June 2025 reported £31.9 million in revenue, an operating loss of £11.1 million and a loss for the year of £11.3 million. Net liabilities were £44.9 million, up from £33.6 million a year earlier. The accounts said the movement was predominantly related to amounts owed to Clowes Developments for owner funding injections supporting day-to-day operations.
In its 2025 financial-results announcement, the club said it had £25.3 million of headroom over the three-year Profit and Sustainability period. These are figures for the stated accounting period and regulatory measure; they do not determine what a buyer would pay. Net liabilities in particular should not be read as a purchase price or a simple cash amount a buyer must pay to acquire the club.
Does a Derby takeover include Pride Park?
The structure has changed since the 2022 purchase. Derby’s 2025 accounts say the club and stadium were placed under Derby County (The Rams) Holdings Limited in May 2025. The holding company is wholly owned by Clowes Developments (UK) Limited, and the accounts state that the restructuring did not change ownership.

This helps explain why historical totals need careful comparison: the 2022 reporting separated the club purchase from the stadium and loan agreement, whereas the 2025 accounts describe the club and stadium together within the holding group. The figures alone do not establish what assets or liabilities a future buyer would acquire; that would depend on the terms of any transaction.

Derby’s Supporters’ Board notes from July 2025 said discussions about investment were ongoing, there was no urgency to secure investment, and existing Clowes funding arrangements remained in place. The notes said Clowes was looking for majority investment but remained open to other offers if they served the club’s interests. The stated considerations included integrity, progress, stability, financial capacity to accelerate the club’s progress and due diligence. These notes describe the club’s reported position at that time, not guaranteed current terms.

The same notes said Clowes did not identify parties or comment on rumours. They therefore do not confirm the identities of interested buyers or a sale price.
