What is the £370 million figure?
The UK government said on 5 February 2025 that the Sports Quarter and surrounding area were projected to generate £370 million in growth each year. The project includes more than the stadium: plans also cover sports facilities, an academy, community pitches, leisure, commercial and residential development. The announcement does not give a stadium-only share or explain a breakdown of the projection. The government announcement therefore supports an area-wide growth claim, not a forecast of stadium revenue, club turnover or profit.
The same announcement described £100 million invested by Knighthead and 8,400 estimated jobs associated with the new site. The £100 million is an investment figure, not recurring annual income; the jobs estimate is not a count of stadium jobs.
What is known about the stadium plan?
Birmingham City’s 2024/25 annual review described the wider Sports Quarter as a £3 billion project and its centrepiece as a 60,000-seat multi-purpose stadium. It said a retractable pitch was intended to support non-sporting events such as concerts. The club annual review is describing the project and earlier stadium plan, not an annual income forecast.

In November 2025, The Guardian reported on the unveiled design: a planned capacity of 62,000 and a target opening in the 2030–31 season. It described a retractable roof and movable pitch intended to accommodate NFL, rugby and concerts. Those are planned capabilities, not confirmed event bookings or guaranteed income. The Guardian’s report on the design attributes the year-round-use ambition to club chairman Tom Wagner; it does not provide a revenue forecast.
Three financial measures that should not be confused
- Stadium revenue is income generated by venue operations, potentially including matchdays, hospitality, events, concessions and sponsorship. No annual stadium-only forecast is established in the cited sources.
- Club turnover or profit refers to the football club’s financial performance. It is not automatically the same as revenue generated by a stadium.

What would be needed for a credible annual revenue estimate?
A meaningful stadium forecast would need to state what counts as stadium income and set out assumptions such as event numbers, attendance, ticketing, hospitality, sponsorship, concessions and operating costs. It would also need to distinguish gross revenue from profit and venue accounts from the football club’s accounts. The cited announcements do not provide those figures, so they cannot support a reliable estimate of how much the Powerhouse itself will make each year.
