What was the reported price for the CBS Arena?
Frasers Group plc reported £50.0 million in cash consideration for the sale of the Coventry Arena business. The company said it completed the disposal on 23 August 2025, selling the entire share capital of Coventry Arena Opco Limited, Coventry Arena Propco Limited, Coventry Arena Retail Limited and Coventry Arena Ipco Limited to Covcityco Ltd. Frasers Group’s 2026 disclosure identifies Covcityco Ltd as the buyer.
The £50.0 million is the seller-reported consideration for the business sale. The available disclosure does not establish that Doug King personally paid that sum from personal funds; it names Covcityco Ltd as the buyer.
How much was paid at completion?
Frasers Group reported that it received £7.5 million on completion, with a further £42.5 million receivable in FY27. The completion date was 23 August 2025. These are the reported timing and amounts; the disclosure does not describe the later receivable as money already paid.

Why was the price not known when the deal was announced?
Coventry City announced the arena purchase on 23 August 2025, but its initial announcement did not disclose the price. The BBC reported that the deal included the arena’s casino and hotel, and that the club had not revealed how much it paid at the time. The price became clear in Frasers Group’s later disclosure. King, Coventry City’s chairman and owner, described the purchase as “more than a transaction” and “a statement of ambition and belief in Coventry.” His comments expressed his view of the deal; they did not disclose its financial terms.

Is the £17m figure the price Doug King paid?
No. The £17 million figure relates to Frasers Group’s reported 2022 acquisition of the arena, not Coventry City’s 2025 purchase. The BBC reported that the earlier deal included a £1.2 million exclusivity payment. It also reported that King made a late £25 million bid at the time, which was ruled too late. Frasers Group also reported a £33.8 million profit on disposal. That is the seller’s accounting profit on the transaction, not the purchase price; the reported consideration was £50.0 million.
