In Google Ads, a payment threshold is part of postpay billing: advertising costs accrue and Google charges the payment method when the account reaches its current threshold or on the first day of the month, whichever comes first. If what you want is a monthly invoice and a credit line, that is a separate billing option that requires an application and Google’s approval.
What “threshold account” means in Google Ads
Google Ads uses a payment threshold with postpay billing; it is not a named account tier or a publicly documented product for sale. Google charges the saved payment method when accrued costs reach the account’s current threshold or at the start of the month, whichever happens first. If costs build quickly, a charge can be slightly higher than the threshold. The threshold varies by account, country, and currency, and can increase as the account reaches it. Postpay threshold versus monthly invoicing
These are different billing arrangements, not two versions of an account to purchase. Under postpay, Google charges the payment method as ad costs accrue. With monthly invoicing, Google extends a line of credit for advertising costs and sends a monthly invoice. - Your business has been registered for at least one year.
- You have had an active Google Ads account in good standing for at least six months.
- You have spent at least $5,000 USD per month, or the local-currency equivalent, in any three of the last 12 months.
Google notes that the spend requirement can vary by country and that the listed requirements are not exhaustive. These criteria are not an approval guarantee: Google reviews the application and the company’s credit history. If approved, Google sets the credit line and payment terms. Why buying account access is not a shortcut
Google documents ways to invite users, manage account ownership through manager accounts, and change who pays. Those processes have access, authorization, profile, and acceptance requirements; they do not establish that someone buying login access inherits the former advertiser’s invoicing approval or credit line. If you have acquired a business or an agency relationship is changing, use Google’s documented account and payer-transfer processes with the required authorizations rather than treating a transferred login as a billing qualification. What to check before changing the payer
A payer-profile change can require advertiser verification again. Google also warns that promotional credit will not transfer and that the postpay payment threshold may differ after the profile changes. Choose the route that matches your goal
- You want to see when Google will charge you: check Billing → Summary in your own Ads account for its current postpay threshold and next payment information.
- You want a monthly invoice and credit line: assess your business against Google’s initial invoicing criteria and apply; Google decides whether to approve you and sets any credit limit and terms.
- You are transferring a business or changing agency arrangements: follow Google’s account-access, manager-ownership, and payer-transfer procedures, with the relevant parties’ authorization.
