You generally do not activate a Raising Cane’s gift card yourself at RaisingCanes.com. The official terms say a card has no value until it is sold and activated, which normally happens as part of the purchase. If a new card is declined, check its balance and ask the seller whether activation completed at checkout.
Does a Cane’s gift card need online activation?
Raising Cane’s does not describe a separate self-service activation form on RaisingCanes.com. Its Gift Card Terms and Conditions, last updated in February 2023, state: “Gift Cards have no value until sold and activated.” In practice, activation is tied to the sale, so a recipient should not need to enter an activation code on the website.

If a card bought in person does not work, check the receipt and contact the store or seller to confirm the sale and activation completed. For a card bought through another seller, start with that seller. Registering a card for digital use is not the same as activating it: Raising Cane’s Terms of Use say the company or its providers may verify a gift card’s validity when it is registered on digital services, but do not say registration activates the card.
How to check a Raising Cane’s gift card balance
Use either of the official options listed in the gift-card terms:

The terms describe the displayed balance as an estimate that may not reflect a transaction immediately. If you have just made a purchase or reload, allow for a delay before treating the displayed amount as final.
What to do if the card is declined
- Check whether the card was activated at purchase. Review the receipt or ask the seller to verify that checkout activation succeeded. The terms do not provide an online activation workaround.
- Confirm the balance. Check online or ask at a participating restaurant. Keep in mind the balance inquiry may update with a delay.
- Check where and how you are using it. The terms cover purchases at participating restaurants and food or beverage orders through Raising Cane’s official website or mobile app. Cane’s Gear purchases outside restaurants are not eligible.
- For an online or app order, recheck the card details. Make sure the card is valid and being used for an eligible order. Digital registration can involve validity verification, but it does not replace purchase activation.
- Ask the restaurant about acceptance. The terms note that some licensed or franchise locations may not accept the cards, including certain named university locations. Confirm with the specific restaurant if you are unsure.
- Contact the right issuer. Company- or affiliate-location cards and Cane’s Gear cards are issued by Raising Cane’s Gift Cards, LLC; a franchisee-owned restaurant may issue its own card. If you do not know who issued yours, call Raising Cane’s at 1-866-55-CANES (22637) as directed in the terms.
Where Raising Cane’s gift cards work—and key limits
Raising Cane’s U.S. terms describe gift cards as closed-loop cards for participating Raising Cane’s restaurants, with the stated exception for food and beverage purchases through the official app or website. They are not cash, cannot be used to buy another gift card or pay for a previous purchase, and generally cannot be refunded. The terms also permit refusal when payment was disputed or use is reasonably suspected to be fraudulent or unlawful.

Physical cards may be reloaded at a Raising Cane’s restaurant or at the franchisee location where the card was purchased. A card may be given to someone without payment, but resale or barter is prohibited. The terms say cards do not expire and carry no inactivity or service fees; state unclaimed-property laws may still apply to abandoned balances.
The terms state a maximum value of $2,000 associated with one card in one day and $10,000 across multiple cards in one day. They also say lost, damaged, or stolen cards will not be replaced or replenished, so keep the card secure and retain its purchase receipt.
