To activate a SecureSpend prepaid card, start with the activation website or phone number printed on your card or its packaging. Visa says prepaid cards can generally be activated online through the provider’s website or by calling the number on the card, but SecureSpend’s current online steps could not be verified. Use the instructions for your specific card rather than relying on a third-party activation page.
Activate your card using its printed instructions
- Find the activation details. Check the card and packaging for the web address and support phone number. Keep the cardholder agreement, too.
- Use the printed website or call the printed number. If activating online, type the address from the card or packaging into your browser. Avoid search-ad links and third-party pages that ask for card details. Visa’s general guidance allows online activation through the provider’s site or activation by phone at the number on the card: Visa prepaid card guidance.
- Follow the instructions for your card. Enter information only on the site identified by the card or its issuer. Visa’s guidance does not establish SecureSpend’s exact online fields or button sequence, so do not assume that a particular set of steps applies.
- If you cannot find an online option, call the printed number. Ask whether the card needs activation and whether the retailer already activated it at purchase.
- Check the agreement before using the card. Confirm when funds are available, whether registration is required, and any purchase or usage limits that apply to your card.
Online activation, phone activation, or retail activation?
The right route depends on the card’s instructions and how it was purchased. Visa describes online and phone activation as general prepaid-card options. A Directions for Me / Horizons for the Blind catalog record for one SecureSpend Visa gift card, however, says it has no value until activated at the register. That listing is for one product and does not establish the terms for every card carrying the SecureSpend name.

When can you use the card?
There is no single wait time established for all SecureSpend cards. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says, “How quickly you can use your card depends on where you purchased your card, and if you are required to activate or register it.” See the CFPB’s prepaid-card guidance, last reviewed September 6, 2024.
For one listed SecureSpend Visa gift card, the catalog record says funds may not be available for 24 hours after purchase. That is a secondary listing for that specific product, not a wait-time guarantee for all SecureSpend cards; its cardholder agreement controls. Directions for Me / Horizons for the Blind catalog

Registration can be different from activation
Activating a card and registering it are not necessarily the same step, and requirements vary by product. The CFPB notes that some features may be limited until registration and that registration may be needed for certain error, loss, theft, or deposit-insurance protections, depending on the card. Read your agreement or ask the card provider which steps apply: CFPB prepaid-card guidance.

If activation does not work
- Recheck the URL and phone number printed on the card or packaging; do not use an unverified activation site.
- Call the printed support number and ask whether the card was activated at the register, whether funds are available, and whether registration is a separate requirement.
- Consult the cardholder agreement for product-specific timing, limits, and support instructions.
- Never post or send your full card number, CVV, or PIN to someone offering help online.
