There is no reliable, like-for-like current estimate for QPR’s controlling owner that can be compared with the latest published figures for other Championship owners. QPR’s often-quoted £12.89 billion figure dates to 2023 and combines the wealth attributed to several people associated with the club at the time; it is not a current estimate of one owner’s fortune or of money available to QPR.
What the published figures say
The most useful recent comparison figures are secondary-source estimates published by Football League World in 2026. They put Blackburn Rovers’ Rao family at £1.66 billion and Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown at £1.25 billion. These estimates have different ownership units—a family and an individual—so they are useful context, not a definitive ranking of Championship owners.

Football League World says its comparison aims to use the ultimate controlling individual where clear and excludes corporate assets under management from personal wealth. Even so, private-wealth estimates are not audited measures, and the figures above differ in date and in who is being counted. They should not be added together or treated as a precise league table.
Why QPR’s £12.89 billion figure is not a current owner’s net worth
The £12.89 billion estimate was published by The72 in 2023 and referred to QPR’s then-associated owners as a group. It cannot establish the personal wealth of today’s controlling owner. A 2026 report says Amit Bhatia agreed to transfer his QPR ownership to majority owner Ruben Gnanalingam, changing the ownership context since that older figure was reported. The available sources do not establish a comparable current net-worth estimate for Gnanalingam.

QPR’s latest located parent-company accounts cover 2024, but company statements describe the company’s finances; they do not disclose the private net worth of each shareholder. A club’s accounts and an owner’s personal wealth answer different questions.
Owner wealth is not the same as money available to spend
A personal fortune, a company’s assets or revenue, a football club’s value, its annual income, and the amount an owner puts into it are separate measures. A wealthy shareholder does not, by that fact alone, guarantee a particular transfer budget or prove that funds will be invested in the team.

For example, Forbes identifies Lakshmi Mittal as ArcelorMittal’s executive chairman and provides information about the company’s revenue and income. Those company figures are not Mittal’s personal net worth and do not establish a funding commitment to QPR.
What QPR’s club finances show—and what they do not
A 2026 analysis by The Esk, using QPR’s 2023–24 accounts, reports turnover of £21 million and staff costs of £24 million. It gives a wage-to-revenue ratio of 114%, meaning staff costs were 114% of turnover in that period. These are measures of QPR’s operating finances, not estimates of shareholder wealth, available cash, or future owner investment.

How spending rules fit into the comparison
The EFL says its Championship Squad Cost Rules replace Profitability and Sustainability rules from 2026–27. The published rules describe an allowance of 85% of income, alongside a flexible equity top-up allowance. These rules shape permitted squad spending; they do not rank owners by wealth or show how much an owner will contribute.

A meaningful comparison needs a common basis. Check whether each number is for an individual, family, or ownership group; whether it estimates personal net worth rather than company assets; and whether the estimates refer to the same year. Keep club investment and spending separate from private wealth. The available published figures do not provide a complete, consistently measured current set for QPR and all the Championship’s wealthiest clubs, so a definitive ranking is not supported.
