The public record does not show exactly how each Global Football Partners (GFP) investor made their money or how the group financed its purchase of Charlton Athletic. It does identify five shareholders with stakes of at least 5%, gives some business background for investor Gabriel Brener, and includes a reported purchase price of around £15 million. Those details are not a full account of anyone’s personal wealth or the takeover’s funding.
Who owns Charlton through Global Football Partners?
Charlton says GFP completed its purchase of the men’s and women’s clubs through its UK subsidiary, SE7 Partners, on 21 July 2023. The club names five shareholders with holdings of at least 5%: Gabriel Brener and family, Joshua Friedman and family, Warren Rosenfeld and family, Munir Javeri, and Marc Boyan. It also says there are smaller shareholders, so this is not a complete list of everyone with an interest.
Charlton’s ownership information identifies the major shareholders, while Companies House filings record SE7 Partners as a person with significant control from 21 July 2023.
What is known about how the investors made their money?
Gabriel Brener has the clearest documented business background
A July 2023 profile by the Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust (CAST) describes Brener International Group as a Los Angeles-based private investment firm and family office. It says Brener began managing family investments there in 1987. The profile also covers his sports-entertainment company and his history as an owner of the Houston Dynamo.

This establishes a business and investment background. It does not disclose Brener’s personal net worth, identify the source of every part of his wealth, or show how much he contributed to Charlton. CAST’s profile of the new owners does not provide equivalent, verified wealth histories for every GFP shareholder.
The other shareholders’ individual wealth sources are not established
The available club and supporter-trust material names the other major shareholders but does not provide enough evidence to state how each accumulated their wealth. It would be speculation to assign them a particular industry, company sale, investment return, or personal fortune based only on their names or affiliations.

What did GFP pay, and how was the takeover funded?
The Guardian reported on 3 August 2026 that GFP paid around £15 million for Charlton in 2023. That is a reported price, not a published financing schedule. The report does not say how much each investor supplied or what proportions, if any, came from equity, borrowing, or other sources.
Charlton’s 5 June 2023 announcement said that SE7 Partners and then-owner Thomas Sandgaard had signed a share purchase agreement, subject to the league process. The club later recorded completion on 21 July. Neither the agreement announcement nor the reported price establishes that the purchase was paid entirely in cash or identifies a particular investor as the source of the funds.

The Guardian’s report gives the circa £15 million figure. Charlton’s takeover announcement records the signed agreement.
What do Charlton’s accounts show about support after the takeover?
CAST’s analysis of Charlton’s accounts for the year ended 30 June 2024 reports £11.734 million owed to companies within the new ownership group. It also says renewed letters of support from the major ultimate shareholders supported the club’s going-concern assessment.

This is evidence of later group-company liabilities and shareholder support, not a breakdown of the July 2023 purchase funding. CAST notes that the accounts it analyzed did not disclose transactions with wholly owned group entities, limiting what can be inferred about the ownership group’s internal funding. The club’s reported £13.927 million loss for that financial year is a club result, not evidence of any owner’s income or personal wealth.

What ACA Football Partners’ involvement tells us
ACA Football Partners announced in July 2023 that it had agreed to join GFP as a minority shareholder. ACA described a wider multi-club project and said its intended contribution included player-development links and international audience growth. That describes ACA’s stated strategy; it does not establish how much cash ACA contributed to the Charlton purchase or what returns it has received.
