The reported Ipswich figure was about £37.2 million higher, or roughly 1.93 times Norwich’s. This is an indicative comparison of reported figures, not a like-for-like measure of first-team player salaries.
What the 2024–25 figures show
| Club | Reported amount | Reporting period and label |
|---|---|---|
| Ipswich Town | £77.1 million | Year to June 2025; “wage costs,” reported by BBC Sport from the club’s annual report. BBC Sport |
| Norwich City | £39.899 million | Year ended 30 June 2025; “wages,” listed in The Accounts’ summary of the filed accounts. The summary describes consolidated group reporting. The Accounts |
Subtracting Norwich’s listed £39.899 million from Ipswich’s £77.1 million gives an approximate difference of £37.2 million. Dividing the reported amounts puts Ipswich at about 1.93 times Norwich. These are calculations from the published figures, not separately reported statistics.
Why this is not a precise player-pay comparison
“Wage bill” is a useful shorthand, but the published labels are not identical: BBC Sport describes Ipswich’s figure as wage costs, while the Norwich accounts summary labels its figure wages. Neither source establishes a directly comparable total for first-team player salaries alone. The reported amounts should therefore be read as accounting figures, which may cover more than playing staff.
The reporting entity can also change the number. Ipswich Town Football Club Company Limited’s standalone parent-only accounts list £66.655 million in wages for 2024–25, rather than the £77.1 million wage-cost figure reported from the club’s annual report. Those amounts have different scopes and should not be mixed as though they were the same measure. The Accounts’ Ipswich summary

League status and the year-on-year change
Ipswich’s £77.1 million figure covered its first Premier League season in more than 20 years; the club was relegated to the Championship in May 2025. BBC Sport reported that Ipswich’s wage costs had risen from £44.5 million in the previous financial year, an increase of £32.6 million. Its reported turnover for 2024–25 was £155 million. BBC Sport
The club’s annual report, as quoted by BBC Sport, said increased revenue offset increased costs. It attributed the period’s profit to player-asset sales and performance bonuses that were lower than budgeted. The wage-cost rise therefore sits within a broader set of changes in revenue, costs and player trading.

What the comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The latest common reporting period established here ends on 30 June 2025. Ipswich’s accounts for that date are listed by Companies House as filed on 24 December 2025, and Norwich’s official website confirms its annual report for the year ended 30 June 2025. Companies House Norwich City
These historical figures do not establish either club’s payroll in 2026–27. Wage costs can shift with transfers, loan arrangements, bonuses, league status and reporting structure, and the cited sources do not quantify the clubs’ current payrolls.
