Valnet announced on January 3, 2025, that transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano was joining GIVEMESPORT. The company said he would contribute exclusive transfer reporting and behind-the-scenes football coverage, with his first contributions expected in the weeks ahead of that January transfer window. Valnet’s announcement did not disclose contract terms, compensation, or how the agreement was negotiated.

What Valnet announced

Valnet’s newsroom dates the announcement to January 3, 2025. Its longer announcement, “GIVEMESPORT Signs World-Renowned Transfer Insider Fabrizio Romano,” described Romano as joining the publication as a transfer insider and football journalist. It said his first exclusive contributions were expected in the coming weeks, ahead of the January transfer window. That was the publisher’s stated plan at the time, not a description of his current employment terms.

The announcement said Romano would cover transfer developments, negotiations, player movements, and stories from behind the scenes. Valnet presented his arrival as a way to strengthen GIVEMESPORT’s football coverage; it did not describe the move as a specific type of employment contract.

What Romano and Valnet said

In a statement reproduced in Valnet’s announcement, Romano said: “I’m very happy to join the GIVEMESPORT team, to develop details of the stories and bring people even more behind the scenes of transfers and updates on the football world”.

Ryan Owen, Valnet’s Sports Portfolio Manager, said: “We are excited to have Fabrizio join GIVEMESPORT. His addition to the team will help cement GIVEMESPORT as the most authoritative and recognizable brand in football.” That final phrase expresses Valnet’s ambition; it is not an independently verified ranking of the publication.

Romano’s credentials, as Valnet presented them

Valnet’s announcement said Romano had contributed to Sky Sports, The Guardian, and CBS Sports. It also credited him with Globe Soccer Awards’ Best Football Journalist award in 2022 and Best Digital Journalist in 2023, and inclusion in the European Forbes 30 Under 30 for media and marketing in 2023. These are career details stated by the publisher in its announcement.

Audience figures: announcement claims versus later metrics

Valnet cited more than 91 million fans across social platforms and more than 25 million dedicated football fans on Facebook in its 2025 announcement. Those are the company’s figures at the time, not current independently audited counts.

Valnet’s sports portfolio page, whose statistics are updated as of April 2026, reports figures for both GIVEMESPORT and the wider sports portfolio. They describe different scopes:

Scope Valnet figure Date and qualification
GIVEMESPORT 12 million monthly visits; 14 million monthly pageviews Valnet sports portfolio page, updated April 2026
Valnet sports portfolio 19 million-plus monthly visits; 22 million-plus monthly pageviews; 29 million-plus social followers Valnet sports portfolio page, updated April 2026; covers the portfolio, not GIVEMESPORT alone

GIVEMESPORT’s place in Valnet’s sports portfolio

Valnet’s page, updated April 2026, says GIVEMESPORT was founded in 2014 and has been owned by Valnet since 2022. It describes the publication as covering the Premier League, Champions League, MLS, UFC, WWE, and boxing, and lists Romano and Ben Jacobs among its journalists. This provides current company context, but does not establish the terms or continuing details of Romano’s 2025 signing.
