You can use EL AL Matmid points for award tickets, Cash & Points bookings, eligible upgrades, and certain duty-free purchases. The right option depends on your itinerary, available inventory, the cash still due, and the rules attached to that transaction—there is no single fixed cash value for every point.
How do I spend EL AL Matmid points?
Start by deciding what you want the points to do, then compare the live quote and conditions for that specific transaction. EL AL’s frequent-flyer regulations, labeled as of April 1, 2025, describe several redemption routes and allow prices and terms to change. Read EL AL’s Matmid regulations and check the terms shown when you book.
- Want a ticket paid for with points? Search for an award ticket and check both seat availability and the cash charges.
- Want to lower the amount paid for a booking? Compare the Cash & Points quote with the ordinary cash fare.
- Already have a booking? Ask EL AL whether its current upgrade process accepts your ticket and whether the flight has upgrade availability.
- Want an onboard or duty-free item? Check the eligible products, flight requirements, ordering window, and payment terms.
For each route, weigh the points required against the money still due and the cancellation, change, and expiry rules. A larger points deduction does not automatically make one option a better deal.
Can I use Matmid points for a flight?
Award tickets
EL AL’s regulations allow award reservations and ticketing through its website, service center, or a travel agent; online travel agents are excluded. On EL AL flights, award tickets are for destinations EL AL serves. Award-seat inventory is limited and can differ by flight and date.

Points cover the award redemption, but applicable taxes, levies, fees, and supplements are payable in money at the amount shown when the ticket is issued. A service-center booking may also carry a handling fee. EL AL says its award price list can change and may depend on destination, timing, and other considerations, so use the quote for your route and dates rather than relying on a universal points chart.
You may issue an award for another person if you specify that when ordering and issuing it. Passenger names cannot be changed after issuance. Award tickets are generally valid for departure within 12 months of issue, though promotional tickets may have a shorter validity period. Changes can incur fees, and the rules also address unused points and expiry. Confirm the specific ticket’s terms before issuing it; an award ticket should not be assumed to have the flexibility of a cash fare.

Cash & Points
Cash & Points lets eligible members apply points toward a booking. Depending on what EL AL publicizes and makes available, eligible content can include tickets and ancillary products such as seats or baggage. Availability and the points-to-money ratio can vary with destination, travel date, demand, and other commercial factors. Book through EL AL’s website or a travel agent, not an online travel agent.
Compare the cash fare with the Cash & Points quote, including the amount payable after applying points. The booking flow displays the applicable baggage, cancellation, and change conditions; review them before purchase rather than assuming a point has a fixed cash value.

Can I use EL AL points to upgrade?
EL AL’s regulations permit upgrades using points through the process it publishes. Eligibility depends on the details of the existing booking, including the booking class, and on availability for the flight. The upgrade form asks for passenger, route, flight, booking, and ticket information, and notes that taxes or other monetary differences may still be due.
Check with EL AL for your exact booking to confirm eligibility and the points required. Older promotions or quoted point prices should not be treated as current terms.

Can I use Matmid points for duty free?
Matmid members can pay all or part of the cost of eligible items through EL AL’s online duty-free service, and EL AL says onboard items may also be paid for fully with points. Online points payment requires a Matmid login and a qualifying EL AL, UP, or Sun d’Or flight; the order also requires passenger and itinerary details. Product availability and delivery can depend on stock, the aircraft, and flight details.
EL AL’s duty-free terms state that online advance orders may be placed from 30 days before the scheduled flight. The terms give deadlines of 48 hours before departure from Israel and 96 hours before flights to Israel. The terms page does not show a publication date, so verify the live deadline and product availability for your flight before ordering.

Can Matmid points pay for Gift/Celebration in the Sky?
EL AL’s Gift/Celebration in the Sky form includes an option to pay with Matmid points and asks for a specific flight and passenger. The page does not provide current catalogue prices or enough information to establish the value of this redemption. Treat it as an additional service to check directly with EL AL, not as a known-value alternative to a flight redemption.
What to check before spending points
- Availability: Confirm award inventory, Cash & Points eligibility, upgrade availability, or duty-free stock for the exact flight.
- Total cash due: Include taxes, levies, fees, supplements, upgrade differences, and any service-center handling fee shown for the transaction.
- Flexibility: Read the specific rules for changes, cancellations, no-shows, passenger names, ticket validity, and points expiry.
- Points versus cash: Compare the actual points and money quotes for your dates. The published rules do not establish one dependable points-to-cash conversion for every route or redemption.
EL AL’s regulations and product terms can change. The April 1, 2025 regulations are a dated reference, not a guarantee that a price, process, or condition remains available; rely on the current booking or purchase terms for your transaction.
