To earn AAdvantage miles on an Alaska Airlines flight, add the traveler’s AAdvantage number to the reservation before departure, then confirm the flight’s marketing carrier, eligible fare code and route. Alaska-marketed flights use American’s distance-and-fare-class chart; an Alaska-operated flight with an AA flight number uses American’s chart instead.
First, identify which airline markets the flight
The marketing carrier and flight number determine which earning chart applies—not simply the airline operating the aircraft. An Alaska-marketed flight uses the Alaska partner chart below. If Alaska operates a flight sold with an American (AA) flight number, use American’s chart for that flight. Check the flight number on the ticket and compare the result with American’s Alaska partner page.

Check the booking code and calculate Alaska-marketed flight earnings
For an Alaska-marketed flight, American says earnings depend on distance flown and fare class. The booking code—the letter shown in the fare details—matters; a cabin label such as “Economy” or “First” alone does not establish the earning rate. The current chart lists these rates:
| Cabin and fare | Booking code | Base miles, as a share of distance | Cabin bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| First | J | 100% | 75% |
| First | C, D, I | 100% | 50% |
| Economy | Y, B, H | 100% | None listed |
| Economy | K, M, L | 75% | None listed |
| Economy | V, S, N, Q | 50% | None listed |
| Economy | O, G | 25% | None listed |
| Basic Economy | X | 0% for tickets bought on or after December 17, 2025 | None |
American’s chart lists Loyalty Points for the earning rows other than Basic Economy X. These are distance-based partner rates, not a calculation based simply on the ticket price. The published chart does not give a mileage total for a particular itinerary, so a personal estimate requires the flight distance and the exact booking code.

Basic Economy has a purchase-date cutoff
An Alaska Basic Economy ticket in code X earns no AAdvantage miles or Loyalty Points if it was purchased on or after 12 a.m. Central Time on December 17, 2025. The cutoff is based on when the ticket was bought, not the travel date. Check the ticket’s purchase date and fare code against American’s current Alaska chart.
Add the traveler’s AAdvantage number before flying
- Check the ticket. Identify the marketing carrier and flight number to determine whether the Alaska partner chart or American’s chart applies.
- Confirm the route and booking code. Make sure the route is eligible and the fare code appears in the applicable chart. American says an unlisted Alaska fare code earns neither miles nor Loyalty Points.
- Put the traveler’s AAdvantage number on the reservation. The person who flies earns the credit. American says the frequent-flyer selection cannot be changed after departure, so add the number before the trip.
- Keep travel documents. Save the boarding pass, ticket receipt and other ticket records until the credit appears, in case American requests proof.
Allow time for credit, then claim eligible missing miles
American’s FAQ says partner-flight mileage can take up to 30 days to post. If eligible flight credit is still missing after that period, submit an online missing-flight-mile request within 12 months of the activity date. Keep the boarding pass and ticket documents available to support the claim.

There is an enrollment-related limitation: American’s terms limit credit for partner travel that took place more than 30 days before AAdvantage enrollment, unless American makes an exception. Review the AAdvantage terms and conditions if the flight predates your enrollment.

Earning requires an eligible purchased ticket and qualifying route. American warns that partner route eligibility can change, so check the current partner information for the itinerary rather than assuming every Alaska flight qualifies. Special fares or cases where the fare details needed for normal calculation are unavailable may be credited using a distance percentage determined by booking code. For ticket-price-based earnings, government-imposed taxes and fees do not earn miles or Loyalty Points.
