The available published estimates put David Clowes and family at £380 million in the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List and John Textor at £2.6 billion in FourFourTwo’s 2026 football rich list; a comparable current figure for Ashley was not established. Separately, Clowes said Derby County’s expected takeover had failed to complete on 10 August 2026 and that the club had been taken off the market.
What the published estimates say
The available figures differ in date, scope and publisher, so they are useful as reported estimates, not as a precise ranking of the three men’s personal wealth.
| Name | Published figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| David Clowes | £380 million | The Sunday Times Rich List 2025 estimate for Clowes and family—not an individual estimate or audited personal net worth. |
| John Textor | £2.6 billion | FourFourTwo’s 2026 football-rich-list estimate. The publication says it relies on public information and uses Forbes valuations where possible; it is not an audited personal account. |
| Mike Ashley | No comparable figure established | A current estimate using the same date and method as the other two was not established. |
Because these numbers do not share a date or stated common methodology—and one covers a family rather than an individual—they do not support a dependable three-way league table or precise wealth ratios.
Why the Derby takeover update matters
In an official club statement, Clowes said Derby had expected a takeover to complete on 10 August 2026, but it did not. He said the club had subsequently been taken off the market. He described the day this way: “We started the day expecting completion of a takeover and ended it stunned, in a daze and pondering steps we didn’t expect to have to take.” He added: “I’m not wasting any more time on what might have been, hence why we have taken the club off the market.” Read Clowes’s statement.

The reported acquisition cost
BBC Sport reported in 2025 that Clowes’s Derby takeover cost £55 million. That is a reported acquisition-cost figure, not a valuation of his wealth, cash holdings or current ability to invest. BBC Sport’s report.

Clowes Developments’ accounts
Clowes Developments’ audited group accounts reported net assets of £318.8 million and net debt of £39.5 million at 31 March 2025. These are figures for the corporate group, not Clowes’s personal balance sheet. Company assets and liabilities, ownership stakes, family wealth and an individual’s net worth are different measures; the accounts should not be added to the Rich List estimate. Companies House filing history.
Derby County’s operating figures
For the year ended 30 June 2025, Derby County reported revenue of £31.9 million and an average home attendance of 29,018. Those figures describe the club’s operations, not the owner’s personal wealth. The accounts state that Derby County (The Rams) Holdings Limited owned the club and stadium companies and was wholly owned by Clowes Developments (UK) Limited, the ultimate parent undertaking. What can be concluded about the comparison
- Textor’s published £2.6 billion estimate is larger than the £380 million estimate for Clowes and family, but the figures are not like-for-like and should not be treated as a definitive personal-wealth comparison.
- The available evidence does not support placing Ashley above or below either man by a current, comparable net-worth estimate.
- Clowes’s reported £55 million takeover cost and his company’s accounts provide context about investment and business finances, but neither establishes his personal net worth.
