Pokémon is a huge, diversified global franchise, but its current overall profit cannot be reliably quantified from the official figures available here. The published numbers show enormous reach and strong demand for some products; they are shipments, manufacturing totals and sales counts—not a consolidated income statement for Pokémon.
Why there is no single reliable profit figure
“How profitable is Pokémon?” depends on what counts as Pokémon and what financial measure is meant. The Pokémon Company is a corporate entity with group companies. The broader franchise also involves rights holders, game developers, licensees and distribution partners. The available official material does not provide a current consolidated figure for the franchise’s revenue, operating profit or net income, nor does it disclose current profit-sharing arrangements among the participants.
Those measures are not interchangeable. Consumer spending or a product’s sales count does not tell you how much revenue a particular company recognized; revenue does not reveal costs; and profit is what remains after costs under a defined accounting measure. Without financial statements tied to a specific entity and period, a precise franchise-wide profit estimate would be speculation.
Where Pokémon makes money
The Pokémon Company describes a business spanning video games, the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), apps, video and animation, official shops, licensing and tie-ins, and overseas operations. The Pokémon Company International says that outside Asia it handles brand management, licensing, marketing, the TCG, animation and home entertainment. These are multiple routes to earn revenue, but the official business descriptions do not break out revenue or profit by channel.

The corporate history identifies Nintendo, Creatures and Game Freak as investors in The Pokémon Company’s predecessor, established in April 1998, and calls them the original copyright holders. The company profile also lists group companies, including The Pokémon Company International and Pokémon Center Co., Ltd. That history helps explain why franchise economics are not equivalent to one company’s results; it does not establish today’s ownership economics or how profits are allocated.
What the published numbers do—and do not—tell you
The Pokémon Company’s official scale figures, stated as of March 2026, demonstrate the franchise’s breadth. They are not financial results:

| Published figure | What it measures | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| More than 515 million Pokémon-related video game software units shipped | Cumulative software shipments as of March 2026, according to The Pokémon Company. | Revenue, profit, or how many units consumers ultimately purchased. |
| More than 85 billion Pokémon TCG cards manufactured | Cumulative cards manufactured as of March 2026, according to The Pokémon Company. | Cards sold, revenue, or profit. |
| TCG sales in more than 90 countries and regions | Distribution reach as of March 2026, according to The Pokémon Company. | Sales value or profit in those markets. |
| TV anime broadcast in more than 190 countries and regions | Broadcast reach as of March 2026, according to The Pokémon Company. | Licensing income, viewing figures, or profit. |
| 5.8 million copies of Pokémon Legends: Z-A sold worldwide in its first week | A product-specific first-week sales count announced by The Pokémon Company in October 2025, attributed in the release to Nintendo and including downloads. | The game’s margins or the franchise’s overall profit. |
These figures are useful evidence of commercial scale, but they cannot be added together or converted into a profit estimate. They use different units and time periods, and none reports the costs or revenue recognized by a particular company.

A meaningful estimate would need financial disclosures that identify the entity, fiscal period and accounting measure. It would also need to distinguish consumer spending or retail sales from revenue recognized by a rights holder or company, and then distinguish both from operating profit or net income. Channel comparisons would only be useful if they used the same period, geography and type of financial figure.

Accordingly, the sound conclusion is that Pokémon has substantial commercial scale and several revenue channels, but the current overall profitability of the franchise is not established by the official figures cited here. A sales milestone, card-production total or measure of geographic reach cannot substitute for that missing financial disclosure.
