The strongest current published figure puts Queens Park Rangers’ 2024/25 wages at £27.4 million, but that is a group-account figure reported by The Bean Counter—not a directly verified figure from QPR’s official group accounts. It sits near Blackburn Rovers’ reported £28.2 million in staff costs and above Preston North End’s £22.0 million, although the available figures do not support an exact Championship ranking.
What is QPR’s reported wage bill?
The Bean Counter’s 2026 analysis of QPR’s 2024/25 accounts reports group wages of £27.4 million, equal to 98% of the £28 million in group revenue reported on the same basis. The source describes its 2024/25 figures as filed, but the official group-accounts PDF was not directly inspected for this figure. Treat it as a secondary-source account analysis rather than an independently verified official total. The Bean Counter’s QPR accounts analysis.
Companies House records that QPR’s football-club company and QPR Holdings both filed accounts for the year ended 31 May 2025. The club-company accounts were filed on 17 February 2026. The filing record confirms the accounts and their dates, not the wage amounts reported by the secondary analyses. Companies House filing history.
Why do published QPR figures differ?
The £27.4 million figure is for QPR Holdings’ group accounts. Dragon Football’s 2026 analysis instead reports rounded figures for the separate football-club company: £23 million in wages, £31 million in turnover and a £200,000 pre-tax profit for 2024/25. It says its figures were editor-curated from the public filing. The two wage figures refer to different reporting entities and should not be averaged, treated as competing measurements of the same account line, or substituted for one another. The distinction matters for comparison: the group figure is not the same measure as the standalone football company’s wage figure. The available sources do not establish a single, directly comparable QPR total that can be matched cleanly against every other Championship club.
How does QPR compare with Championship peers?
On broad scale, the £27.4 million group-basis figure is close to Blackburn Rovers’ £28.2 million and above Preston North End’s £22.0 million in SalarySport’s 2024/25 staff-cost table. These are useful nearby reference points, not a like-for-like ranking: SalarySport does not give QPR a cost entry, and its comparison uses clubs’ respective latest filed accounts rather than one harmonized reporting period for all 24 teams. It also labels the peer figures as staff costs, which should not automatically be equated with QPR’s group wage measure. SalarySport’s Championship staff-cost comparison.

| Club or comparison | Reported amount | Period and measure |
|---|---|---|
| QPR Holdings group | £27.4m | 2024/25 wages, as reported by The Bean Counter in its 2026 analysis; group-account basis |
| QPR football-club company | £23m (rounded) | 2024/25 wages, as reported by Dragon Football in its 2026 analysis; separate company basis |
| Blackburn Rovers | £28.2m | 2024/25 staff costs in SalarySport’s latest-account comparison |
| Preston North End | £22.0m | 2024/25 staff costs in SalarySport’s latest-account comparison |
| QPR entry in SalarySport’s comparison | Not stated; SalarySport says QPR does not separately report staff costs | No comparable QPR staff-cost figure is listed |
Because the peer table omits QPR and mixes the clubs’ latest filed account years, it cannot show whether QPR has the Championship’s third-highest, fifth-highest or any other precise wage position. Nor can the nearest figures prove that the clubs spend similarly on players: accounting definitions, reporting entities and the coverage of staff costs may differ.

Deloitte’s 2026 Annual Review of Football Finance reports that Championship clubs generated £942 million in aggregate revenue in 2024/25, down 2% year on year. The division recorded £436 million in operating losses and £355 million in pre-tax losses over that season. These league totals put an individual wage figure in a financially pressured context, but they do not establish QPR’s own profitability or affordability. Deloitte also notes the continuing importance of parachute payments and the effect of the season’s club mix on aggregate revenue. Deloitte’s Annual Review of Football Finance.

What a wage-bill comparison can—and cannot—tell you
- Scale: The reported £27.4 million group figure places QPR broadly around the level of the Blackburn example and above the Preston example, but neither comparison establishes a league rank.
- Wage burden: The Bean Counter’s 98% figure compares QPR group wages with its reported group revenue. It is not a percentage calculated from the separate club-company figures, and it should not be compared with another club’s ratio unless the same entity scope, period and accounting definitions are used.
- Competitiveness: A wage total alone does not show how effectively a club converts spending into results. It says nothing by itself about squad composition, player availability, loan arrangements or the value received for the money spent.
- Affordability and transfer spending: Wages are not the whole cost of operating a club, and they do not measure transfer fees. A wage bill on its own cannot establish financial sustainability or total squad investment.
