A 2019 High Court judgment called his wealth “self-made” and valued his Saudi Paper shareholding at about US$160 million in 2013. That is historical evidence, not a verified estimate of his net worth today. Prince Abdullah is now Sheffield United’s former owner: COH Sports completed its takeover on 23 December 2024.
How did Prince Abdullah make his money?
Prince Abdullah’s royal status is not, by itself, an explanation of his documented wealth. In a 2019 judgment, Mr Justice Fancourt wrote that “Prince Abdullah’s own wealth was self-made.” The judgment identified his shareholding in Saudi Paper as his principal asset in 2013.
Saudi Paper was his principal documented business asset
The judgment described Saudi Paper as “a tissue paper production company in Saudi Arabia founded and part-owned by the Prince.” The court estimated his Saudi Paper shareholding was worth about US$160 million in 2013. This figure concerns the value of his shares at that time; it is not the company’s value today or a current estimate of his personal wealth.
He also held other investments and property
The same court record described about US$30 million net in other Saudi and American shares and private-equity investments in 2013. It put the approximate value of his London and Los Angeles houses at US$40 million to US$60 million that year. Those are dated estimates reported in the judgment, not a complete current balance sheet.

What does the court record say about his income from Saudi Paper?
The judgment records Prince Abdullah’s testimony that, at the company’s peak before 2013, the most he had received in annual Saudi Paper dividends was up to about US$8 million. It says dividends declared in 2013 were equivalent to US$5 million and that Saudi Paper was no longer paying dividends by 2015.
The decline matters when interpreting the older asset figures: a shareholding’s value and dividend income can change over time. The judgment does not provide a current valuation of the company or Prince Abdullah’s remaining stake.

What is Prince Abdullah’s net worth?
No verified current net-worth figure is established by the available court record or the reports of Sheffield United’s takeover. The High Court figures describe selected assets and income at particular points in time—principally 2013—and do not amount to a present-day calculation of assets minus liabilities.
Online estimates should therefore be treated cautiously unless their publisher identifies the date, evidence, treatment of liabilities and valuation method. In particular, the court record does not substantiate a current net-worth figure of £18 billion. It would be misleading to present that amount, or any of the court’s historical asset figures added together, as his net worth today.

Is Prince Abdullah still Sheffield United’s owner?
No. Prince Abdullah invested in Sheffield United in 2013 and later became its sole owner. COH Sports completed its takeover on 23 December 2024, ending his period as owner. The BBC identified Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy as the consortium’s co-chairmen. The Guardian reported that the deal also included Sheffield United Women, SUFC Hotel Ltd and the club’s real estate.
