The latest cumulative lifetime-revenue milestone located is more than $30 billion, reported in 2022. That figure is not a current estimate of what the Call of Duty franchise could sell for, nor is it profit. A separate milestone puts sales above 500 million copies as of October 30, 2024, but that measures units, not dollars.
What does “worth” mean in this case?
“Worth” can refer to several different financial measures. The reported $30 billion figure is cumulative lifetime revenue: money generated over time from the franchise’s products and related business. It is not a current standalone valuation, a profit total, or the price paid for the franchise.
A present-day asset valuation would require a method and assumptions about future earnings, operating costs, rights, and risk. The sources cited here do not establish a current standalone valuation for Call of Duty.
The reported lifetime-revenue figure
Game World Observer reported in June 2022 that Activision Blizzard had shared a milestone of more than $30 billion in lifetime revenue, alongside more than 425 million units sold. The outlet attributed the information to the company following a presentation for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and an interview with The Washington Post. This is secondary reporting of company-provided information, not a franchise-level audited revenue figure presented here as such. Read the June 2022 report.

No newer cumulative-revenue announcement or independently sourced current standalone valuation is established by the sources cited here. The $30 billion milestone should therefore be read with its date and measure attached, not as a claim about what the franchise is worth today.

The 2024 copy-sales milestone confirms the series’ scale but does not update the 2022 revenue figure. These numbers cover different measures, time periods, and scopes, so they should not be combined into a new revenue estimate.

How Call of Duty generates revenue
Revenue is not limited to the sale of premium game copies. Activision’s 2022 annual report describes the company’s revenue as coming primarily from full-game and in-game sales and software licensing, and discusses premium and free-to-play offerings alongside recurring live-service opportunities. Its consolidated financial figures cover multiple businesses and franchises, so they cannot be treated as Call of Duty revenue. See Activision Blizzard’s 2022 annual report.
Activision’s December 2020 announcement also described performance across the Call of Duty ecosystem, including free-to-play Warzone, post-launch support for Modern Warfare, and Black Ops Cold War. That illustrates why copy counts alone cannot capture all the ways the franchise earns revenue.

Why the other figures are not a valuation
- Unit sales are not dollars. The 500 million figure counts copies; it does not state how much revenue those copies generated.
- Bookings are not lifetime revenue. Activision’s more-than-$3-billion milestone covered net bookings over a 12-month period in 2020.
- Companywide revenue is not franchise revenue. Activision Blizzard’s annual-report totals include multiple businesses and brands.
- A deal for a larger company would not price this franchise on its own. An acquisition price for Activision Blizzard cannot be used as the standalone value of Call of Duty.
For those reasons, dividing the reported $30 billion by a copy-sales milestone would not produce a meaningful average price or valuation: the figures have different dates and scopes, and franchise revenue includes more than full-game copies.
