Why do the club accounts show a different wage figure?
Grimsby Town Football Club Limited’s accounts report £4,420,061 in wages and salaries for the 13 months from 1 June 2024 to 30 June 2025. They also report £422,460 in social security costs, or £4,842,521 combined. Those costs cover the company’s employees, not only first-team players. The accounts list an average of 91 full-time, 31 part-time and 119 match-day staff during the period, 241 people in total. The club’s filed accounts are the official source for these company-wide figures.
The two wage figures answer different questions: Salary Sport estimates player wages for a squad in a football season, while the accounts state company-wide wages and salaries across a 13-month financial reporting period. They should not be treated as interchangeable or used to calculate a direct player-wage share of turnover.

Can Grimsby’s wage bill be ranked against the rest of League Two?
Not reliably from the available figures. Salary Sport’s accounts comparison covers 17 of the league’s 24 clubs, but provides staff-cost data for only 10; its Grimsby entry is for 2018/19. Its more recent player-wage estimates do not amount to a complete, consistently verified set for all League Two clubs. The evidence therefore does not support calling Grimsby one of the division’s highest- or lowest-spending teams, or assigning it a specific rank. Salary Sport’s League Two comparison illustrates the coverage limitations.
A meaningful club-to-club wage comparison would need matching seasons and definitions—for example, player wages against player wages, with comparable treatment of bonuses, employer costs and loaned players. Company-wide staff costs cannot fill gaps in a player-pay comparison.

What do agent-fee figures add to the comparison?
The FA reports Grimsby’s net agent fees at £103,774 in 2024/25 and £104,022 in 2025/26. Across League Two, the corresponding totals were £2,740,669 and £2,613,332. These are fees paid to agents, not wages paid to players, so they provide a separate measure of transfer-related spending rather than a substitute for a wage-bill ranking. The FA’s agent-fee disclosures list the figures by season.
How does the wage question fit Grimsby’s recent results?
Grimsby finished ninth in League Two in 2024/25, up from 21st in 2023/24. The club described ninth as its highest league finish in 19 years. That improvement is useful sporting context, but ninth was not a play-off place in 2024/25 and does not show what the club spent relative to its rivals. The club’s accounts announcement gives the result and financial-period context.

The club said 2024/25 turnover was £6,042,436, describing it in its announcement as rising from £5.7 million to £6 million. The reporting period was 13 months because the financial year end changed. That longer period matters: comparing the accounts’ company-wide costs with a season-based player-wage estimate or treating the figures as a straightforward 12-month wage-to-turnover ratio would mix unlike measures.
