Who owns Leeds United?
Leeds United Football Club Limited is wholly owned by 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC, according to the club’s corporate information. The club’s page also says Paraag Marathe and Jed York each own more than 10% of 49ers Enterprises Partners LLC, the entity holding voting rights in the owner; Marathe exercises those rights as a Leeds director. This ownership chain does not establish a net worth or standalone valuation for 49ers Enterprises.

Leeds describes 49ers Enterprises as the San Francisco 49ers’ strategic arm for investments in teams, leagues and other sports properties. It first invested in Leeds in 2018, increased its stake in 2021 and completed the transition to sole ownership in 2023. The club announced an agreement for the purchase on 9 June 2023; after EFL approval, it announced the full ownership transition on 17 July 2023. In that announcement, Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe said, “This is an important moment for Leeds United and we are already hard at work.”
Elland Road Limited, which had also come under 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC’s control in July 2023, was transferred back to Leeds United Football Club Limited in March 2024, according to the club.

What do the published figures actually measure?
These figures are not interchangeable: a family’s estimated net worth is not the same as a sports franchise’s enterprise value or the price paid in a club transaction.

Forbes’ family profile also says the York family owns more than 90% of the 49ers and cites a franchise value of more than $8 billion. That profile’s figure and its later September 2026 team valuation of $10.5 billion reflect different valuation dates; use the dated team estimate when referring to the September figure.

How the York family built its wealth
The strongest account in the published profiles is that the family’s wealth has roots in real estate and mall development, while its major sports asset—the San Francisco 49ers—grew substantially in value over time. FourFourTwo attributes the family’s wealth to mall real estate. Forbes identifies the 49ers as Denise York and her family’s source of wealth and says the family bought the franchise for $13 million in 1977.
That purchase price and today’s estimated franchise value illustrate the long arc of the asset’s reported value, but neither figure by itself is a complete accounting of family wealth. A net-worth estimate concerns a person or family’s assets and liabilities; a franchise valuation concerns a business. The sources do not provide an audited breakdown of the family’s assets or show exactly how much of its estimated wealth comes from the team.

Did Leeds United create a $6 billion fortune?
No. Leeds joined the 49ers Enterprises portfolio decades after the York family bought the San Francisco 49ers. Forbes says the family paid more than $200 million for Leeds’ remaining 56% stake in 2023, while Bloomberg put the Leeds transaction valuation at about £170 million ($215 million). Both numbers describe the acquisition, not the family’s net worth—and neither supports the claim that Leeds created a $6 billion fortune.
The sources reviewed do not give a standalone valuation of 49ers Enterprises or establish a $6 billion net worth for that entity. - Subject: Is the number for an individual or family, a company, or a specific club?
- Date: When was the estimate calculated or the transaction completed?
- Currency: Is it in pounds or dollars? Do not treat a £6 billion estimate as a $6 billion valuation.
- Source and method: Is it an editorial rich-list estimate, a business valuation or a reported transaction price?
- What the figure represents: A net-worth estimate, enterprise value and purchase price answer different questions.
Applied here, the distinction is decisive: the £6 billion figure belongs to FourFourTwo’s estimate of Denise York and her family; Forbes’ September 2026 estimate values the 49ers at $10.5 billion; and Bloomberg’s roughly £170 million figure concerns Leeds’ 2023 deal. None is a direct $6 billion valuation of 49ers Enterprises.
