Alaska Airlines’ 2025 Mileage Plan changes did not raise the published thresholds for its four elite tiers. Instead, the airline added ways to earn elite-qualifying miles (EQMs)—including award flights, certain Visa card purchases and eligible non-airline partner activity—and introduced more milestone rewards. Alaska later rebranded the program as Atmos Rewards in October 2025, with new terminology; that change is separate from the 2025 earning rules described here.
What were Alaska’s 2025 elite-status thresholds?
In its October 16, 2024 announcement of 2025 Mileage Plan changes, Alaska listed these EQM thresholds:
| 2025 Mileage Plan tier | EQMs required |
|---|---|
| MVP | 20,000 |
| MVP Gold | 40,000 |
| MVP Gold 75K | 75,000 |
| MVP Gold 100K | 100,000 |
The announcement expanded earning opportunities and added intermediate milestone rewards; it did not announce new threshold figures for these tiers. These are the figures Alaska published for the 2025 Mileage Plan program, not a statement of current Atmos Rewards qualification rules. Alaska’s 2025 Mileage Plan announcement
How could members earn EQMs in 2025?
Flights booked with miles
Award trips flown on or after January 1, 2025, were announced as eligible to earn EQMs based on distance flown. Alaska said those EQMs would begin posting to accounts in spring 2025. Its example was a Seattle–Tokyo-Narita round trip covering 9,538 miles, which would earn 9,538 EQMs. The example and earning rule are from Alaska’s announcement; they are not independently measured results.

Qualified Alaska Airlines Visa purchases

This describes the historical 2025 offer only; it should not be treated as a current card benefit or as a complete description of qualifying purchases. Alaska’s announcement and terms summary
Eligible non-airline partners
Alaska announced 1,000 EQMs for every 3,000 miles earned with eligible non-airline partners, citing Lyft as an example. The announcement does not establish that every partner or every type of partner earning qualified, so members needed to distinguish eligible activity from partner activity generally.

What milestone rewards were added?
Members earning EQMs could choose a perk at milestones beginning at 10,000 EQMs. Alaska also listed milestones at 30,000, 55,000, 85,000, 150,000, 200,000 and 250,000 EQMs. Listed reward types included bonus miles, lounge access, trial status for a trip, rollover EQMs, and events or experiences.
At 85,000 EQMs, one listed choice was to roll 10,000 EQMs into the following year. These milestones provided reward choices along the way; they were distinct from the published thresholds for earning the four elite tiers.

What did Alaska announce about upgrades?
Alaska said it planned later in 2025 to change upgrade waitlist priority. Under the announced plan, Million Milers would receive the highest priority within their tier, with other members ordered by EQMs earned rather than ticket price. Alaska also said MVP members would become eligible for complimentary, space-available upgrades when traveling on the same reservation.
This was described as a planned upgrade-priority change, not as a change to the EQM thresholds. The announcement alone does not verify when or whether every part of the plan was implemented. Alaska’s announcement

How did the later Atmos Rewards rebrand affect the terminology?
On August 20, 2025, Alaska announced Atmos Rewards, its combined loyalty program with Hawaiian Airlines. The transition took effect in October 2025: Mileage Plan miles became “points,” and elite-qualifying miles became “status points.” Alaska said existing status benefits would continue through the transition. Those later naming changes should not be confused with the Mileage Plan EQM rules Alaska announced for 2025. Alaska’s Atmos Rewards announcement

The practical value depended on how you earned and how close you were to a tier or milestone. A member taking award trips could count on the announced distance-based EQM route; someone with qualified card or partner activity had to account for the specific eligibility rules and caps. If choosing between a milestone perk and progress toward a tier, compare the reward’s immediate usefulness with the EQMs still needed for the next threshold. The announcement lists the available routes and milestones but does not establish which choice was best for an individual member.
