Jobe Bellingham’s Sunderland wages were estimated at £12,500 a week in 2024/25, or £650,000 a year, according to a March 2025 report. Those figures are not official contract disclosures, and another salary database gives a slightly lower weekly estimate. The reported figures put him below several highly paid Championship midfielders, but pay is not a measure of who played best. Bellingham left Sunderland for Borussia Dortmund in June 2025, so this is a historical comparison, not a current Sunderland salary.
How much was Jobe Bellingham paid at Sunderland?
Sunderland AFC News estimated Bellingham’s 2024/25 pay at £12,500 per week, equivalent to £650,000 per year. It listed his contract expiry as June 2028. The wage and contract details are media estimates, not terms confirmed by Sunderland or Bellingham.
A separate SalaryLeaks listing puts his weekly pay at £12,000 while also listing £650,000 annually for 2024/25. Those figures do not convert exactly: £12,000 multiplied by 52 weeks is £624,000. The difference between the two weekly estimates is another reason to treat the numbers as approximate rather than a settled salary.
How did his estimated wage compare with other midfielders?
The table compares published estimates for the 2024/25 season. Sunderland AFC News supplied the Sunderland figures; Betimate supplied the two external comparison figures through SalaryLeaks’ reported rankings. None of these sources establishes the players’ actual contractual pay.

On the Sunderland AFC News estimates, Bellingham’s weekly figure was below those of Le Fée, Browne and Abdul Samed, level with Roberts, and above the other Sunderland midfielders listed. The higher outside estimates for Brownhill and Aaronson give a sense of the reported upper range, not a complete or independently verified league ranking.
Does that make them the Championship’s “best” midfielders?
No. A salary list measures reported pay, not quality, contribution or value for money. The sources do not define “best” by performance or provide a consistent statistical comparison of midfielders.

There is a separate measure of Bellingham’s season: Sunderland’s official announcement says he made 43 appearances in the promotion-winning 2024/25 campaign, was named Championship Young Player of the Season and was selected for the Team of the Season. Those honours establish recognition, but they do not settle a broader ranking against every Championship midfielder.
Why the figures should be treated as estimates
Clubs and players do not generally publish individual wages in the sources cited here. Salary websites and media reports therefore offer estimates rather than audited payroll data or confirmed contract terms. Annual and weekly figures may also be calculated or presented differently, as the two Bellingham listings illustrate.

Team wage-bill comparisons do not resolve the question: a club’s overall payroll cannot verify what one midfielder earns. Any precise league-wide pay table should be read as a ranking of reported estimates, not confirmed salaries.

No. Sunderland announced on 10 June 2025 that Bellingham had completed a permanent move to Borussia Dortmund, describing his Sunderland tenure as a two-year spell. The BBC also confirmed the transfer and reported a five-year deal with Dortmund. The Sunderland wage estimates above relate to 2024/25 and should not be treated as his current Dortmund pay.
