That was a recommendation, not an adopted wage or entitlement. MGNREGA was later replaced from July 1, 2026, by the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, which provides a 125-day guarantee, according to government material. The sources cited here do not establish the successor law’s current notified wage rates.
What the parliamentary panel recommended
The Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj asked the Centre to consider a minimum wage of ₹400 per day and at least 150 guaranteed workdays under MGNREGA. At the time, the scheme’s statutory guarantee was 100 days. The committee’s proposal did not itself change either the wage or the guarantee. The Indian Express reported the recommendation in 2025.
The committee said MGNREGS wages had not kept pace with inflation and were below subsistence levels. It called for base wage rates that reflected current economic conditions and provided what it described as respectful wages. The report also called for a survey covering worker satisfaction, delayed wage payments, participation trends and financial irregularities. Why the panel raised wages and workdays together
A higher daily rate would address what a worker earns for a day of eligible work; a longer guarantee would expand the maximum period of work available under the scheme. The committee’s proposal addressed both the value of wages and the limited number of guaranteed days. It linked its wage recommendation to inflation and workers’ ability to meet basic needs.

The Indian Express reported that notified daily MGNREGS wages at the time ranged from ₹241 to ₹400 depending on the state. That was a 2025 snapshot, not a current rate table, and it should not be read as the wage payable today under the successor framework.
What the Centre said about wage revisions in 2025
In a Rajya Sabha answer dated August 8, 2025, the Ministry of Rural Development said it set unskilled-work wage rates by notification for each financial year and revised them annually using changes in the Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labour (CPI-AL). The Ministry reported an average increase of around 5% for FY 2025–26 over FY 2024–25, effective April 1, 2025. This describes the government’s annual revision method; it does not show that the Centre accepted the panel’s separate ₹400 proposal. Read the Ministry’s Rajya Sabha answer.

Implementation concerns the committee identified
The panel also raised concerns about the delivery of the programme, not only the wage level. These included delayed release of the Centre’s share of funds and difficulties with the National Mobile Monitoring System, particularly offline attendance recording in areas with poor connectivity. It cited pending liabilities of ₹23,446.27 crore as of February 15, 2025: ₹12,219.18 crore in wages and ₹11,227.09 crore in materials, as reported at the time. Those are historical figures, not a statement of current liabilities. The Indian Express report details the figures and concerns.
How the entitlement changed after the recommendation
The 150-day proposal is no longer the current statutory guarantee under the framework described in the government’s later material. The VB-G RAM G Act, 2025 took effect nationwide on July 1, 2026, replacing MGNREGA and providing a 125-day guarantee of wage employment. The change means the 2025 committee recommendation must be understood as a proposal about the former MGNREGA framework, not as today’s entitlement. Government of India material on the successor framework gives the commencement date and guarantee.

The sources available here do not establish the wage rates currently notified under the VB-G RAM G Act. Workers should consult the latest official notification applicable to their state and the relevant financial year rather than rely on the 2025 MGNREGS figures.

The library record establishes the report’s subject and publication date; it does not, by itself, establish whether the ₹400 wage or 150-day recommendation was accepted.
